OBJECTIVES Use the completed Career Wheel (of awesomeness) to evaluate your career direction Position your resume, LinkedIn profile, and Workday profile for success Classify career-promoting and career- killing online behavior

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER

My current set of skills Skills I’d most like to use when working Skills I’d like to develop SKILLS INVENTORY

Skills are a “threshold” variable in your ability to do a job successfully It’s easy to vary your skills You have strengths and weaknesses Weigh the cost and benefits of adding new skills FOUR POINTS ABOUT SKILLS

Skills that have value regardless of the business context for which you’re using them. Examples: Writing Motivating others Organizing data Interpreting information TRANSFERABLE SKILLS

CAREER RESOURCES

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER

Can you identify any patterns in your Career Wheel? Does your current job match the information you identified in your Career Wheel? Does your current job motivate you intrinsically? What are the gaps between where you are now and where you would like to be? EVALUATE YOUR CAREER DIRECTION

Do This: Grammar and tenses Share accomplishments, not responsibilities Quantify your accomplishments Tweak for each opportunity Proofread from the bottom up Get feedback EFFECTIVE RESUMES

Don’t Do This: Use the pronoun “I” Use clichés and buzzwords Leave out months Cram everything into one page Use the same resume for every job Include “references upon request” Add more than two pages EFFECTIVE RESUMES

POWER WORDS

Complete your profile fully Use power words Develop your network Ask for recommendations Give recommendations Research career opportunities LINKEDIN
