Trigg County Public Schools Why assess? For learning Formative assessments are assessments conducted during learning to inform teachers’ instructional decisions along the way to student success. Provide information about how and what students are learning To be used effectively, teachers must take part in a cyclical process that includes assessment, diagnosis, feedback, goal setting, and instruction. - Rick Stiggins and Stephen Chappuis

Trigg County Public Schools Universal Screening AIMSweb Screening Tools –Take from 1 – 8 minutes per assessment –Given 3 times per year

Trigg County Public Schools GRADE and GMADE Norm-referenced, research-based reading and math assessments Administered to –all students in grades K-3 – 3 times per year –All students 4-5 – 2 times per year –6-12 – 2 times per year for students below the 10 th %il on AIMSweb screenings

Trigg County Public Schools ThinkLink Purpose – predictive assessment related to KY Core Content Given in the grade levels and subjects that are assessed in KCCT 3 times per year – approximately 1 hour per subject Resource/support materials available for teacher use to target specific skills

Trigg County Public Schools RIT Scale (Rasch Unit) Vertical Scale Beginning Numeracy Adult Math X Norm x x xX X Grace XxXx x X X Daniel x X x x x 3 rd grade (5 th grade) 7 th grade See RIT reference chart X x An advantage of the RIT scale is that it can relate the numbers on the scale directly to the difficulty of items on the tests. Characteristics of the RIT Scale include: It is a stable equal interval scale. It helps to measure growth over time. It has the same meaning regardless of grade or age of the student. MAP sees instructional level not grade or age! It is an achievement scale.
