What is Universal Jobs Match (UJM) and how can it help me? UJM is the system now used by the job centre to advertise jobs. Jobs are available on line available by a log on, this makes vacancies available at the touch of a button. You can upload your CV’s which will make the application process easier and quicker for you. Employers can also look for CV’s on this system.

National Unemployment Statistics Unemployment in general has increased from 70,000 to 2.56 million nationally. 900,000 people have been out of work for more than a year and increase of 8,000 within the last 3 months. Understanding local employers There are 4 sectors you may consider when applying for work 1.Service sector – serve people i.e. health care/ transport an delivery. 2.Manufacturing sector – producing items on a large scale for sale i.e. Nissan. 3.Public sector – government run, providing services to the public i.e. bin collectors, nurses in hospitals etc. 4.Private sector – ran by individuals or groups with a focus on making money i.e. shops, supermarkets and insurance companies.

Local Employers In groups of 3, discuss and research local employers which fit into all 4 sectors and record findings on the worksheet provided. You can use your mobile phones or the PC’s within the room.
