HOW MANAGERS CAN PROMOTE MENTAL WELLNESS

Some simple reminders for things you might want to review with the managers in your workplace

REDUCE PRESSURE Have you set unrealistic, unreasonable demands? Ask them!

CONTROL? The amount of stress an employee feels is directly tied to feeling of lack control over their job. What can you do to address this? Can you give them more latitude to get the job done?

MANAGE CHANGE Engage employees in change process. Get them on board ahead of time.

CONFLICT? Signs of Personality conflicts? Continuing disagreements? Bullying? Harassment? Harmful gossip? Pay attention. Find out. Figure out what to do.

SUPPORT Be understanding of challenges they face. Do they feel stressed and overwhelmed? Work out solutions.

YOUR IMPACT ON THEM What mood are you communicating? Are you giving off positive or negative energy? What is your stress level and is it obvious? It’s contagious!

SEEK FEEDBACK Ask questions. What do they like and dislike about their job? Listen. Uncover problems so you’re not surprised when they surface.

BE FLEXIBLE Don’t sweat the small stuff. Be understanding when things go wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. Make exceptions.

APPRECIATE Positive reinforcement works. In general, it’s more important than criticism. Practice regular, ongoing praise for good work.

HAVE COMPASSION Put yourself in their shoes. Then, see yourselves through your employees’ eyes. Be the boss you’d like to have!

BE DEPENDABLE Remember that your employees understand that their future is in your hands. They need to feel they can depend on you.

ERGONOMICS!

THANK YOU
