The Fire Department continues to provide code compliance on all occupancies within the municipality. Since the Department’s Safe Home Program was launched in Penetanguishene, approximately Seven Hundred and forty two (742) homes have been visited. Public education sessions held during 2013 included fire extinguisher demonstrations for bus patrollers, Boy Scouts, Brownies, seniors and municipal staff; fire hall visits by school children and youth groups; Fire Prevention Week, Safe Home Program, yearend school family BBQ events and Canada Day Celebrations.

TRAINING DIVISION During 2013 Fire Department Personnel completed one thousand, two hundred and eighty-five (1,285) hours of training in the General Level Firefighter Curriculum. Training on advanced topics in 2013 totaled three hundred and eleven (311) hours. Total training hours in 2013 were one thousand, five hundred and ninety six (1,596) hours.

ADMINISTRATION  2013 was a busy year for the Fire Department staff and saw the maintenance of the essential level component of the Emergency Management Program. The development of a new emergency management plan for the Town. The Department saw the completion of Capital Projects.

ADMINISTRATION  The Fire Department completed its seventh (8 th ) joint recruitment process and training program with our partners. All new recruits completed one hundred (100) hours of orientation training before responding to calls. All new recruits attended twenty (20) hour live fire training session at the Ontario Fire College.

ADMINISTRATION  An operational review is underway on department’s response to calls for service and a review of how the department conducts training. A new fire inspection schedule has been developed and will be implemented in 2014 which include the new carbon monoxide regulations and the homes for special care requirement for sprinklers.

2014 DEPARTMENT OBJECTIVES  Continue the Safe Home Program;  Continue to work on the Emergency Management Program Exercise and training for municipal staff.  Complete all Capital Budget projects in a timely manner and within Council approved budgets; and

2014 DEPARTMENT OBJECTIVES  Work closely with our neighbouring Fire Departments to ensure service levels and programs are delivered to meet all standards and in the most cost effective manner.  Complete fire master plan.  Continue with the operational reviews.
