8-4 Homework Questions? Turn in 8-3

Quiz Leave all answers in simplest radical form!

8-5, 8-6, 8-7 Objectives Define trig ratios: tangent, sine, and cosine. Solve right triangle problems using these trig ratios.

The Tangent Ratio

What is tan(A)? 1. 2.

Why do we care? Turn to p. 311 and get out a scientific calculator.

Using tangent to solve for sides. Solve for x

1. 2.

Word problems! Cozy up to your neighbor An airplane takes off the runway and begins its ascent at an 8° angle of elevation. How far has the plane traveled (horizontally) before it reaches its target elevation of 5 miles?

In an attempt to look as cool as Mr. Cawelti, Mr. Propri hit one of the big ski jumps at Breckenridge. At his max height, he realized he was in over his head (literally) and started to panic. How far does he have to fall? Mr. Cawelti’s eye level is 6 ft. above the ground, and he can see Propri from 25 ft. away at an angle of elevation of 34°.
