Words To Know! Words to Know Warm and Cool Colors Chalk Pastel Color Scheme Shading Highlights Line Implied Form Shape Still Life Harmony Picture Plane Variety Overlapping Space Abstract Contour Line Balance

Pastel Techniques Side strokes: Cover large areas Blending: Layering colors and smoothing them out with a finger, blending tortillion, brush, etc. to blend them together Feathering: Blending a color onto the paper and then using side strokes or the edge of the pastel to draw over it.

Beware of over-blending!! Try to stay away from over-blending the pastel. Let the colors overlap each other, but don’t smudge shapes of colors into each other. Remember Janet Fish’s artwork is effective because you see her individual shapes of color! Over blending creates muddy colors and it wears away the surface of the paper!

Project Goal Represent transparent/reflective properties of objects while also contrasting opaque/reflective objects. Capture distortion Shapes of color and line to show form Represent 3D objects in space Draw fast thumbnail arrangements of the objects/draw large enough to fill space.

Friday 4-1 Aim: How can you sketch a more final arrangement from the still life? Do Now: enlarge your thumbnail sketch onto final copy paper HW: April Monthly Sketchbooks begin! You will have 5 Days to apply color to your still life next week and that is it!!
