2 This exciting undergraduate programme is the first of its kind in Hong Kong and the region.

Why a BA (Hons) in Human and Organizational Development? Organizations need professionals who understand how people and organizations grow, learn and work smoothly with others, so as to effect meaningful changes. Human service professionals are people with community development skills and values drawing on an interdisciplinary knowledge base. They are the professionals by solving problems, improving opportunities for individuals and organizations, and caring communities. The BA(HOD) curriculum builds on international best practices for training entry level human service professionals at a time of significant social change. 3

Programme Aims The programme is designed to prepare dedicated professionals to become key players across a range of organizations in today’s rapidly changing environment. 5 Our graduates will be able to: master the knowledge and skills necessary to help others work effectively in organizations; contribute to an organization’s quest to reach higher levels of effectiveness; and work within a range of organizations and groups to effect positive change in communities.

In their second year of study, students have to declare a Specialization in accordance with their preferred career focus. Two specializations are offered: Specialization 1: Organization Leadership and International Development Leadership Theories and Behaviour Leading Change and Organizational Development Decision-making and Issues of Diversity Development in International Contexts Specialization 2: Human Service and Community Development Industrial and Organizational Psychology Personnel Psychology Community Counselling Negotiation and Conflict Management 10

Research Methods provides an in-depth study of research design, methods and applications to foster students’ critical thinking, analytical skills, problem-solving, and capability for life-long learning Honours Project provides students with more intensive and advanced training in research design and applications, and requires an in-depth investigation on a topic under intensive guidance of a supervisor Internship provides a 200-hour ‘real world’ experience in companies and organizations, particularly those serving community development allows students to apply learned theories, principles, strategies and skills to practice in a real work setting closely related to their specialization study 11

Programme Delivery Mode of Study Four-year full-time, on-campus learning with real-world internship Medium of Instruction Major courses are conducted in English. Some General Education and/or Elective courses may be taught in Chinese (Cantonese/Putonghua). General Admission Requirements HKDSE applicants must have: English Language – Level 3 Chinese Language – Level 3 Mathematics – Level 2 Liberal Studies – Level 2 one elective subject – Level 2 Applicants with non-HKDSE results should: have a recognized Associate Degree/Higher Diploma, with a good GPA; or have non-local qualification e.g. GCE AL, IB Diploma; or be an undergraduate student from recognized tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, Mainland China or overseas; or have HKALE qualification; or be a mature applicant. 14
