Density
Definition Density is the mass of an object in comparison to the volume it occupies
Mass Mass is the “weight” of an object
Volume Volume is how much area an object takes up.
Finding Mass Mass is found using a scale.
Finding Volume To find volume, we must determine if an object is a regular shape or an irregular shape.
Regular Shape A Regular Shape object has specific measurable dimensions (radius, circumference, length-width-height)
Volume of Regular Object If the object is like a cube, the equation is length x width x height If the object is a sphere, the equation is 4/3 x Pi(3.14) x radius^3
Irregular Shape Irregular Shaped Objects do not have measurable sides.
Finding the Volume of an irregular object To find the volume of an irregular object, you need water and a cup to help you measure. The volume will be the amount the water rises in the cup when you add the object to the cup.
Equation for Density Density = mass/volume Example: Mass=10 grams, Volume = 5 Liters Density=10 grams/5 liters Density = 2 grams/liter
