Aim and objectives of the project Aim: Aim: To enable 2 nd year nursing students to notice and to take into account the cultural dimension of care according to the PTT/IENE model Objectives: Objectives: – To re-state the concept of culture – To know the four stages of cultural competences – To spot the importance of the cultural dimension in care – To take into account the cultural dimension through the specific exercise of an ethical approach

Implementation of the project Integration of the project within the credit unit of “Legislation, Ethics, Business" The Ethics project is taken during the 2 nd year of study, in which the cultural dimension was already present. The PTT model can be easily used in this context Groups study the care situations which students experienced during their training practice

The target group 108 second year nursing students Implementation of the project and the guidance of the students by several teachers of the IFSI Immediate enrolment of the students to the project Investment through proposed clinical situations Dynamism of the oral presentations Interactivity between the students

Details of the project Wide implication of the teachers and the students around the notion of culture Contribution of a new methodology (PTT/IENE model) from a theoretical support aspect Students take into account their own culture, the culture of the patient and the impact of these notions : - on the orientations of the multidisciplinary project of care - on the quality of the care

What did the teachers say about the relevance, the usefulness and the benefits of the project? Raised greater awareness of all the teachers to the importance of the consideration of culture within care Acquisition of PTT/IENE model easily integrated into the educational approach of our institute and in agreement with our professional values Implementation was seen to be across board and progressive

What did the students say about the relevance, the usefulness and the benefits of the project? Developed their questioning of care given Deepened their reflexive position Comprehensive approach Progress concerning the acceptance of another person’s culture Developed their knowledge of the four stages of PTT model

Assessment of the project Assessment of the project - 90% students speak of their awareness of cultural identity - 79% implement this new competence in « caring » “… because of this experience, I became aware of my own culture and able to stand back from it to welcome the patient’s own culture…”

How will the change be sustained? Mobilization and training of the entire teaching team Extension of the PTT model to the other teaching: (public health, clinical approaches, analyses of practices…) Opening the nursing institute for cultural events (exhibitions, conferences…)
