Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 20 prerequisite courses/61 credit hours for applicants who have not earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree 13 prerequisite courses/42 credit hours for applicants who have earned either a bachelor’s or master’s degree, 2 full years of coursework specific to the BSN degree plan. Fall 2010: First Class Accepted Spring 2012: First Class Graduated with 99% NCLEX-RN Pass Rate

Minimum Prerequisite GPA of 2.90 Minimum Natural Science GPA of 3.00 or higher. Applicants may not be on Academic Probation or Suspension. G P A

Natural Science Prerequisites The required natural science courses are: Required GPA for natural science courses is a 3.0 with a minimum grade of C assigned General Chemistry I (3 hours) Functional Biology (3 hours) Principles of Microbiology (4 hours) Anatomy and Physiology I and II (8hours) OR Anatomy (4 hours) AND Physiology (4 hours)

Natural Science repeat policy: Includes all 5 natural science prerequisite courses Total of 8 attempts within the 5 courses Natural science courses can only be repeated one time Withdrawals (W’s on transcript) will count as attempts/repeats If you have repeated courses, you will need to discuss how this impacts your GPA with your advisor. Prerequisite Requirements:  Nutrition 2360 requires grade of C or higher, although not included in the natural science GPA requirement. Maximum of 18 remaining prerequisite credit hours: 8 of these credit hours may be natural science courses Coursework may be taken in the spring and/or summer 2017 semesters Applicants must complete ALL prerequisite courses prior to the first day of Nursing school

Evaluation of Prerequisite Courses 1.Completed coursework at a Texas college or university –Go to Transfer Course Information page: –Make sure the course number listed under the transfer institution matches the TXST column, and the SON prerequisite. 2.Completed coursework outside of the state of Texas –You will need to be admitted to Texas State and have your transcripts evaluated by Undergraduate Admissions. 3.Completed a bachelors or masters degree –Must be admitted to Texas State and have ALL transcripts sent to undergraduate admissions. Certain transfer courses may require further evaluation upon advisor review.

TEAS-V Test The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a computerized assessment of academic preparedness covering Reading, Math, Science, and English. You can only take the TEAS Test twice during the application cycle. An applicant may not repeat the same test form on their second attempt. You must take the TEAS in order to be considered for the program.

TEAS Test Scores The current minimum scores considered for the TEAS exam are: Reading: 81% Math: 76.7% Science: 70.8% English: 73.3% Composite: 73.3% Combination of scores from two separate attempts will not be accepted.

Criminal Background Check All questions regarding background checks should be addressed by the St. David’s School of Nursing Admissions Office. Students must be cleared by the Board of Nursing in order to sit for the NCLEX-RN. This requires a federal level criminal background check as part of the process. Students being considered for admission will receive detailed information from St. David’s School of Nursing regarding this process. If you have a negative event on your record you may still apply to the School of Nursing. However, additional steps may be required.

Applications A complete application packet includes: Nursing application with Texas State University ID number Personal Essay (2 copies) Two Reference Forms (in sealed envelopes) Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Individual Performance Profile – page one only. If you took the TEAS twice submit both profiles. $25 money order made out to Texas State University  See Application Checklist for more details  Incomplete applications are not considered The application must be legible and neat, providing ALL requested information and documents at the time of submission.

Applications Continued Each application will be rigorously evaluated. They will select 100 of the most highly qualified students for conditional admission to the School of Nursing. When 100 applicants have been accepted and confirmed, those applicants who are qualified, but not admitted may be placed on the alternate list. They will also be given the opportunity to reapply. Applicants who are not qualified for admission will also receive communication. They may reapply to the School of Nursing one additional time.

An ideal nursing candidate will: Have a strong background in math and science Have very few repeats or withdraws on their transcript Have solid study habits and be a strong timed test taker Be comfortable working with bodily fluids Be open to working on their feet for long periods of time
