Expectations for spelling in Year 3 and 4

Statutory spelling work for Year 3 and 4 Adding suffixes beginning with vowel letters to words of more than one syllable. The /ɪ/ sound spelt y elsewhere than at the end of words. The /u/ sound spelt ou. Prefixes. The suffix –ation. The suffix –ly. Words ending in sounds like –sion. Words ending in sounds like –sure. Words ending in sounds like –ture. The suffix –ous. Words ending with the /g/ sound spelt – gue. Words with the /s/ sound spelt sc. Words with the /ay/ sound spelt ei, eigh, or ey. Possessive apostrophe with plural words.
