Role of CIHEAM – IAMB within the project Act 3.2 Definition of the fields of action for the new approaches (A)strengthening visibility of intangible value of agriculture and its products (B)promotion of modalities to rationalize the agricultural production processes. 3 focus groups for each region and partner first focus group will target either agricultural SMEs or consumers (A) second focus group will target agricultural SMEs & industries of processing third focus group will target the distribution of agricultural products, focusing on the rationalization of the production chains (B). GENERAL OBJECTIVES: Supporting the families working in the olive oil chain located in the marginal areas and increase their income. PROJECT MAIN GOALS To support the olive growers in increasing the quantity and improving the quality of olives and olive oil, and to reduce their production cost; To provide solutions to the environmental problems caused by the olive oil mills by-products; To empower youth and women and to strengthen the existing agricultural cooperatives; To assist in Marketing and Promotion of the olive oil industry products and by-products. MAIN RESULTS: 3 main training sections for MoA and ICU Staff involved in the project at IAMB headquarter in Italy; 15 Demo plots in project areas managed with the GAPs; Selection of 52 cooperatives and supply of equipments Technical assistance: more than technical visit to the farmers; Missions of Italian experts; Official presentation of the New Olive National Map: May 4, 2010; 5000 copies of guidelines for the application of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Participations to 12 promotion events and international fairs; Organization of a school and public awareness campaign: (5.500 students). A theater puppet show was also performed in 26 schools and 4 public libraries; Training to farmers and cooperatives 3 technical videos: “Guidelines to control Spilocea oleagina in Lebanon”,Improve, Simplify and Facilitate Olive Pruning”, “Agricultural reuse of olive mill wastewater" n. 5 press conference and n. 7 national workshops realized; n. 30 information sheet about the project’s main activities and results published;
