CIHEAM overwiev CIHEAM Founded in 1962, the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) is an intergovernmental organisation comprising thirteen member countries from the Mediterranean Basin (Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia and Turkey).

Role of CIHEAM – IAMB within the project Act 3.2 Definition of the fields of action for the new approaches (A)strengthening visibility of intangible value of agriculture and its products (B)promotion of modalities to rationalize the agricultural production processes. 3 focus groups for each region and partner first focus group will target either agricultural SMEs or consumers (A) second focus group will target agricultural SMEs & industries of processing third focus group will target the distribution of agricultural products, focusing on the rationalization of the production chains (B). Act. 6.1 Independent assessment of the project results CIHEAM – IAMB and CCI DRAMA will coordinate the evaluation process and the achieved results by all partners of the project in terms of effectiveness of the services for support of the competitiveness of agricultural SMEs, and the results will be issued in Evaluation Report

RATIONALIZATION OF RAS EL AIN IRRIGATION SYSTEMS - SIRYA Intervention logicObjectively verifiable indicators of achievement Project Outputs obtained GENERAL OBJECTIVES: Food and income security Increase in yield of strategic crops in the province: X +10% at the project end; X + 20% two years after the project end. Increase in farmers’ income: X +10% at the project end; X + 15% two years after the project end. Increased the wheat yield between 11,6% and 13,6% increased the cotton yield 9,5% SPECIFIC PURPOSE: Reduce the use of groundwater resources in the project area Development and adoption of more efficient irrigation methods by farmers: more efficient irrigation over about 6,800 ha two years after the project end. More efficient irrigation methods on Ha planned (Strategy of the National Irrigation Project)

GENERAL OBJECTIVES: Supporting the families working in the olive oil chain located in the marginal areas and increase their income. PROJECT MAIN GOALS To support the olive growers in increasing the quantity and improving the quality of olives and olive oil, and to reduce their production cost; To provide solutions to the environmental problems caused by the olive oil mills by-products; To empower youth and women and to strengthen the existing agricultural cooperatives; To assist in Marketing and Promotion of the olive oil industry products and by-products. MAIN RESULTS: 3 main training sections for MoA and ICU Staff involved in the project at IAMB headquarter in Italy; 15 Demo plots in project areas managed with the GAPs; Selection of 52 cooperatives and supply of equipments Technical assistance: more than technical visit to the farmers; Missions of Italian experts; Official presentation of the New Olive National Map: May 4, 2010; 5000 copies of guidelines for the application of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Participations to 12 promotion events and international fairs; Organization of a school and public awareness campaign: (5.500 students). A theater puppet show was also performed in 26 schools and 4 public libraries; Training to farmers and cooperatives 3 technical videos: “Guidelines to control Spilocea oleagina in Lebanon”,Improve, Simplify and Facilitate Olive Pruning”, “Agricultural reuse of olive mill wastewater" n. 5 press conference and n. 7 national workshops realized; n. 30 information sheet about the project’s main activities and results published;
