For Unto Us a Child is Born Isaiah 9:1-7

Isaiah 9:1-2 “Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles,” ‎

“which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea ( Mediterranean ), will be filled with glory. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.” ‎

Matthew 4:12-16 “Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee. And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

“‘The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death, Light has dawned.’"

John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Isaiah 9:3-5 You will enlarge the nation of Israel, and its people will rejoice. They will rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest and like warriors dividing the plunder. For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders.

4 You will break the oppressor’s rod, just as you did when you destroyed the army of Midian. ‎ 5 The boots of the warrior and the uniforms bloodstained by war will all be burned. They will be fuel for the fire.”

Isaiah 2:4 “He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.”

Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Luke 1:30-31 “Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.”

John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

Hebrews 4:15-16 “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Isaiah 9:6 “ For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given ; And the government will be upon His shoulder.”

“The prophet then leaps ahead to the Kingdom Age when Messiah will reign in righteousness and justice from David’s throne. God had promised David that his dynasty and throne would be established forever (2 Sam. 7:16); and this is fulfilled literally in Jesus Christ (Luke 1:32–33; Zech. 9:9),

“who will one day reign from Jerusalem (Isa. 11:1–5). This kingdom is called “the Millennium,” which means “one thousand years.” The phrase is used six times in Revelation 20” Warren W. Wiersbe

Luke 1:32-33 "He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end."

Isaiah 11:1-5 “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”

3 “His delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;”

“He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.”

His name will be called: “The idea isn’t that these will be the literal names of the Messiah. Instead, these are aspects of His character, they describe who He is and what He has come to do.” David Guzik

Wonderful-His exceptional being. “He is Wonderful, and will fill your heart and mind with amazement!” DG Counselor-His advice is based on His omniscience so all wisdom is in Him. Mighty God-He is God Himself, the Creator of all things and the sustainer of all that exists. Omnipotent – All Powerful.

Everlasting Father- Better put, Father of all Eternity Prince of Peace-Shalom; The Fulfillment of the angelic prophetic proclamation at Christ’s birth: Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

Isaiah 9:7 “His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of His ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!”
