Give one man made and one natural source of light. Answers vary Man made could include: light bulbs (neon, incandescent, LED, halogen, fluorescent), glowing chemicals, etc. Natural could include: Living things (fireflies, glow worms, Angler fish), fire, lightning, the sun and other starts, etc. Light as Energy for $100

What type of energy is often produced and given off with light? Heat/Thermal Energy Light as Energy for $200

Give the 2 energy Transformations demonstrated by a flashlight being turned on. Chemical Energy → Electrical Energy → Heat and Light Energy (in the batteries) (in the wires) (in the filament of the bulb) Light as Energy for $300

Give two pieces of evidence that light is a form of energy. 1. Light can be changed to and from different forms of energy. Example: In a solar panel light turns into electrical energy 2. Light can do work. Example the light made the propeller spin using the solar panel Light as Energy for $400

List the types of energy in the Electromagnetic Spectrum in order from most energy to least energy. Gamma, X ray, Ultraviolet, Visible Light, Infrared, Microwave, Radio Light as Energy for $500

In what direction/pattern does light travel? In a straight line Light Properties for $100

Name the seven colors of white light in order. red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet Light Properties for $200

What is the approximate speed of light in km/s? 300,000 km/s Light Properties for $300

What two things happen to light as it travels away from the source? Light spreads out and becomes more dim (less powerful) Light Properties for $400

Which color of light has wavelengths of 700 nm? Red Light Properties for $500

What are the primary Light colors? red, green, blue Color for $100

What are the primary pigment colors? cyan, magenta, yellow Color for $200

What do we call the band of color produced by white light being split into the colors? A spectrum Color for $300

Why does a blue object appear black through a red filter? White light produces all the colors. The blue object absorbs all colors but blue. Blue is reflected off the object and is blocked by the red filter. No color makes it to the eye so the object appears black. Color for $400

What are the secondary pigment colors? red, green, blue Color for $500

What is produced when you block light? A shadow Blocking Light for $100

What is the type of material that does not allow light or an image through? opaque Blocking Light for $200

What type of material allows light through, but not an image? Translucent Blocking Light for $300

What is the type of material that produces the lightest shadows? Transparent Blocking Light for $400

How can you produce a larger shadow? Move the object creating the shadow closer to the light source. Blocking Light for $500

How do the special glasses work? The white light is split into the colors of the spectrum by tiny little scratches on the surface of the plastic lenses. Other Stuff for $100

Based on what we learned; if you were packing for a trip to Arizona in the summer what colors of clothes would you pack and why? You would pack light colored clothes to reflect light and keep you cool. Dark clothes would absorb the light and make you hot. Other Stuff for $200

How does the radiometer work? The light is absorbed by the black panels and turned into heat. As the heat is given off the radiometer spins. Other Stuff for $300

What is the term for a particle of light? Photon Other Stuff for $400

Explain why a black light makes some things glow a purple color? Some materials have a chemical that reacts to ultraviolet energy. Some of the ultra violet energy is absorbed and turned into heat, but most is reflected with a little less energy producing purple light. Other Stuff for $500
