Child Labour Anna Kolomiyets

What Countries Support Child Labour? o Philippines, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Mexico and BRIC countries, i.e., Brazil, Russia, India and China pose extreme child labour risks to supply chains of companies. As per Maple croft, the risks that these economies pose to companies are distinct as they form critical links within the multinational supply chains.

Map That Shows The Countries That Support Child Labour

What Are The Catholic Church’s Perspective Of Child Labour? o “Child labour, in its intolerable forms, constitutes a kind of violence that is less obvious than others but it is not for this reason any less terrible.

What Do People Think of Child Labour? o “I don't really think about where the clothes I have bought come from or who made them. But when I get reminded of it, I feel really bad because the companies who sell the clothes get all the money, but the children who actually make them get hardly anything. It's not fair that these children don't have a proper education and deserve more out of what they're doing. People should raise more awareness to this problem, so everyone knows about it and the children can get more out of their life.” o Annabel, 14, Hemel Hempstead

What Goes On In These Children's Lives

Why Do Children Participate In Child Labour? o Today, throughout the world, around 215 million children work, many full- time. They do not go to school and have little or no time to play. Many do not receive proper nutrition or care. They are denied the chance to be children. More than half of them are exposed to the worst forms of child labour such as work in hazardous environments, slavery, or other forms of forced labour, illicit activities including drug trafficking and prostitution, as well as involvement in armed conflict.

Who Started Child Labor? o In the late 1700's and early 1800's, power-driven machines replaced hand labor for making most manufactured items. Factories began to spring up everywhere, first in England and then in the United States. The factory owners found a new source of labor to run their machines—children. Operating the power-driven machines did not require adult strength, and children could be hired more cheaply than adults. By the mid-1800's, child labor was a major problem.

Perspective Of Labourer’s Family o Some parents encourage their children into working 8-18 hours a day because they can’t afford to provide their family with food, shelter and education, but some parents disagree and are against it but don’t have a choice.

What Is My Perspective o I think that child labour shouldn’t happen. Child labour is cruel and abusive to children. I believe children should get an education instead of working all day. What stops them from school their family can’t afford it
