RS80 Series: Typical Customer Enquiries QuestionReplyRemarks My transmissions have been reported as weak and my reception appears to be very short range. What could cause this? The symptoms suggest a faulty antenna. Check and replace antenna parts as necessary, not forgetting deck plugs & sockets. Is it possible to have International & USA Channels available? Yes.Refer to the User Manual for how to select Second Mode or Alternate Channel Set. Why am I unable to access the Second Channel Set? The Second Channel Set is not enabled in the configuration program on most Standard programs. Use the PR80 programming kit to change configuration setting; “SECOND MODE ENABLED”. How do I set an RS80 Series product into Programming Mode? Programming mode access is dependent upon the operating software. Software version 2.1 or later does not need a handset to be connected, connect the programming and power leads and switch on. Software versions pre 2.1 require a handset. Switch on and key in 1,6,0 before the radio has completed it software version display cycle. If successful the display will show “Config NVM”. Company Confidential © 2010 Navico Holding AS Page 22

RS80 Series: Typical Customer Enquiries QuestionReplyRemarks Why can’t I update the software in an RS80 Series product using the PR80? The PR80 Programming Kit only grants access to the Configuration Program held in the on board Non Volatile Memory chip. To upgrade the product software Requires the PR80F Flash Programming Kit to flash update the processor. How can I change the MMSI Number entered into an RS80 Series product? Once entered and confirmed the MMSI Number can only be changed using the Programming Kit PR80. The MMSI Number can be erased to enable entry from the front panel / handset by selecting DSC Identifier on the Configuration Settings page and hitting Space Bar. I have used the PR80 to access the Configuration Software. Why am I unable to change the Serial Number or to enable ATIS or Second Mode? These attributes are password protected. Contact your National Distributor for assistance. Protection by password is used to deny access to certain attributes to ensure that the regulations in differing countries are not infringed. Why can I communicate with other boats on Channel 6 but not on Channel 7? Channel 6 is a Simplex Channel but Channel 7 is Duplex. Simplex can be used ship to ship but Duplex is normally reserved for ship to shore. A list of Channels is given in the User Manual; those with the same frequency for transmit and receive are Simplex and those with different frequencies are Duplex. Why having connected an AHS87 to an RS80B “Black Box” and switching does the handset briefly display the software version and then switch off? The RS87 is incompatible with the RS80B “Black Box”. The various versions of “Black Box” will only accept the handset or control panel for which it has been factory configured i.e. AHS87 will not operate with RS81 and similarly AHS81 will not operate with RS87. An AHS82 Handset can be added to an RS81 to upgrade to DSC capability. Company Confidential © 2010 Navico Holding AS Page 23

RS80 Series: Typical Customer Enquiries QuestionReplyRemarks In a multi-station installation can I install Station 1 with an AHS87 Handset and Station 2 with a PC86 Control Panel? Yes.The AHS87 and PC86 are completely interchangeable. I have a scrambler module fitted to my RS87. If I am in scrambler mode and make a DSC call will the DSC call be scrambled? No.The product automatically jumps out of scrambler mode when a DSC call is initiated. Do I need an expansion board fitted to enable a scrambler module to be fitted? No.The scrambler module is fitted into a socket on the control board. Why is the volume on Hailer and Intercom functions much lower than on other functions? Volume control of Hailer and Intercom speakers are independent of the volume selected for VHF operation. Settings will initially be at factory default but can be adjusted from the handset or control panel during hailer or intercom operation. Can I adjust the volume of a station from another station? Yes.Enter the “ VHF Items” Menu followed by “Speaker Settings” and choose the station whose volume requires adjusting. Can I have a speaker connected to Station 2 without a handset and still control the volume from Station 1? Yes.See Speaker Settings above. Company Confidential © 2010 Navico Holding AS Page 24
