THE BEST COOKIE By : Arianna Tejeda

I wanted to find out about the difference in the taste of two different cookies, one of which had salt and another that didn’t have any salt. I found that salt does have an effect on the taste of cookies and, other foods as well. The results of my study showed that the cookie with salt won the most votes for taste testing cookies among the 10 volunteers. SALT OR NO SALT THAT’S THE QUESTION

METHOD 1)Bake one batch of cookies with salt 2)Make another batch w/out salt 3)I will run a taste test, with 10 volunteers to find out which cookie tastes better? The one with the salt or the one without salt? 1)Bake one batch of cookies with salt 2)Make another batch w/out salt 3)I will run a taste test, with 10 volunteers to find out which cookie tastes better? HYPOTHESIS My hypothesis is that the cookie with salt will taste better. I think the cookie with salt will taste better because, salt is known as a ingredient that brings out the flavor in the food. That’s why so many of us fall in love with french fries!

WHO LIKED WHAT? The results show that the majority vote was for the cookie with salt. Although two people voted for both, and replied “ They both taste the same.”

CONCLUSION According to my data, my hypothesis was correct. In my hypothesis I stated that the cookie with salt would be the cookie that most volunteers would like because, many enjoy food that have salt. For example French fries are one type of fast food that many enjoy, but in McDonald’s large French fries there is 350 mg of sodium!

This is important to my science project because, the problem is that, we eat too many foods with lots of salt! All that salt in those foods begin to add up! It is recommended we have only 1,500 mg of sodium each day. However, the average American has 3,400 mg of salt each day! That’s well over our range! It is recommended we have only 1,500 mg of sodium each day. However, the average American has 3,400 mg of salt each day! That’s well over our range!

In this study I learned, that we need to watch how much salt we take in each day. I also learned that salt has certain qualities that make it irresistible and give food more flavor! I also learned that many of us like to have a lot of salt in our food. We like it so much that more and more people are having health problems because of too much sodium in our diet! We need to watch what we eat and make sure we are under the recommended daily allowance for salt intake. Lastly I learned that salt really does bring out the flavor in our foods such as my cookies!
