In Serbia there are typical gypsy and popular music and folk dances.

gypsy anthem Gelem Gelem Health and liberty It is a popular song The first singer who sang this song was Milan Aivazov.He was born in His grandfather sang this song, but he only remembered the melody. The international gypsy anthem was composed by Jarko Jovanovic. The anthem talks about the gypsies held in Nazi concentration camps during the Second World War.

Turbo-folk Musical origins: Serbian, Bulgarian, Albanian, Macedonian, Bosnian, Montenegrin, Romanian, Greek, Gypsy, Turkish and Arabic folk music; pop, R&B contemporary, dance pop, techno, rock, disco, house, soul. Cultural origins: In the 70s and 80s in Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Serbia Common instruments: Guitar - bass- drums – synthesizer – keyboards - sequencer – rhythems box – accordion Popularity:In the 70s and 80s in Yugoslavia and then, in Balkan countries with the Svetlana Raznatovic hit.

In Serbia, Turbo-folk was the musical style during Milosevic age, and it was related to the instruments of war, gangsters and nationals of government. The main Serbian diva, Ceca, was the wife of a Serbian warlord “Arkan”. Turbo-folk is a Balkan, ethnic and patriotic phenomenon.

The composers Kornelije Stanković ( ) and Stevan Mokranjac ( ) are usually considered precursors of symphonic music in Serbia. Other important figures in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries were Petar Konjović, Stevan Hristić and Josif Marinković. The leading figure in contemporary Serbian music is Goran Bregović. He mixes traditional folk, rock, Bulgarian music and other musical styles

“SREM KOLO” Srem is a Serbian town, “kolo” means circle, since most of these dances are danced in this way.

CHOREOGRAPHY FORMATION : Dancing in a circle, alternating men and women. They put their arms behind the back.
