Public Speaking

Public Speaking We study public speaking because sooner or later all of us will have to open our mouths and say some- thing in a public setting... and we will be judged by our performance!

Public Speaking Public speaking has 3 purposes: to inform, to persuade, and to entertain.

Public Speaking The most common of these 3 purposes is to inform, which is to get a general or specific message out to others.

Public Speaking The need to inform is often combined with the desire to persuade, which is to get others to DO something as a result of a general or specific message.

Public Speaking However, it is not uncommon for a purpose to be to entertain, which is to deliver a message in an engaging manner.

Public Speaking Whatever the purpose (s), good public speaking moves people... and causes them to think, feel, respond, etc.

So... What makes a good speaker? (Think DELIVERY !) What makes a good speech? (Think CONTENT !)
