All Terrain Sled Sydnee S. 12 Virginia

My Great Idea In the winter, kids around the world love to led on the powdery snow, but when all of the snow melts they’re back to sitting inside and playing on their computers and phones. My goal is to create a family friendly sled for all ages that will not only work on snow, but grass and ice as well! If my invention succeeds, hopefully children will be more active year-round!

Investigation Many people have tried to develop sleds that work on different surfaces than snow, but they only work on one specific terrain. If my invention succeeds, my sled will work on all surfaces and not just one, like the previous attempts. For ice sleds, inventors have put metal rails on the bottom to help it slide; and for grass sleds, inventors have placed wheels on the bottom of the sled. My invention will not use either of these techniques, but will hopefully work on both surfaces, as well as snow.

Sketch it!

Creation 1)Gather all materials 2)Attach rubber to one sled with loctite glue 3)Attach bamboo to one sled with loctite glue 4)Apply a coating of polyurethane to another sled 5)Let polyurethane dry 6)Test each sled (including control)

Pictures Sled coated in polyurethane Sled with rubber attached Sled with bamboo attached

Try It The sled with rubber attached to it would not move at all on grass My friend suggested a different type of rubber The sled with a polyurethane coating slid, but not smoothly or fast on grass My friend suggested more coatings of polyurethane The sled with the bamboo attachment would not move at all on grass My friend suggested I try a smoother type of bamboo The sled with rubber attached moved on ice, but not very well The sled with a polyurethane coating moved smoothly, but not fast on ice The sled with the bamboo attachment would not move on ice

Adjustments I will attach a smoother rubber to see if it will run I will apply more coats of polyurethane to make the sled run more smoothly I will attach a type of bamboo with a smoother surface to the last sled

Sell It My invention is called the All Terrain Sled and it is great for children and adults alike! If you buy my sled you will never be bored again! You won’t be bored ever again, you can sled all day everyday, without worrying about the snow melting! I guarantee that you will love my product.
