UK Athletics Officials’ Development Programme Level Three

What is Level Three? Discipline specific Recognition of a higher level of competence and application Result of an accumulation of experience and support/mentoring

Emphasis on: 1.Learning from guided/mentored experience 2.Accumulation of ‘evidence’ of ability informing assessment process 3.All ongoing reports in the possession of the candidate

Personal skill development is a new concept. It is: 1.The right of every official 2.Designed to improve practice and widen technical knowledge and application 3.Remove the doubt when moving to work in a new environment or echelon of our sport

Content 1.Generic meeting management module 2.Modules on technology applications in all disciplines 3.Application of international rules (compare/contrast with UKA)

Application Territorial and ‘local’ internationals Acquiring the skills of becoming a ‘Chief’ or ‘Referee’ Capable of joining the IOG

Timescale 2006, transfer old grades to new Levels Autumn 2006, new discipline specific training modules available to aspiring officials (both new level 2 and ‘old transferees’ ) Summer 2008 new level 3s in place Selection to appropriate meeting by assessment outcomes

Assessment Candidates will be expected to have attended the necessary courses for their discipline, as well as the generic courses. Candidates will be expected to have received positive reports from at least six competitions, including at least one in the position of Referee and one as either Clerk of Course or Technical Manager of an appropriate event. Candidates will be expected to have submitted their Log of Experience to the relevant person.
