Cleaning up the bed of Által-ér „water – everything flows”

The course of Által-ér The creek, Által-ér, runs through Oroszlány – Kecskéd – Tatabánya and Tata. Its banks are full of bushes, trees and unfortunately rubbish. The rubbish in the creek itself often blocks the flow and causes build- ups that may lead to floods. Also, the creek feeds the Öreg-tó in Tata, and may pollute the lake, too. These were the main reasons the cleaning up was necessary.

The bed of Által-ér ‘Before ’

Work commences -Stricter guidelines for sewage treatment plants nearby: -Tatabánya (treating m3 raw water): new unit added to aid denitrification -Tata: installation of new units, technological improvement (a computer-controlled/supervised system to be installed; constant examination of quality of cleaned water) -Stricter limit values for treated water -Cleaning up the river bed

Results Developments resulted in: -Nitrite pollution of Által-ér can be reduced by 80 kg/day, or 25.5 ton/year -Much cleaner riverbed – 40 km of riverbed cleaned up -Elimination of occasional build-ups leading to floods -(for 2013): a cycling road from Tatabánya to Tata along the creek to the Öreg-tó

The cleaning process
