LOCATIONS Notes 10/22

WARM-UP 10/22  Number a piece of paper in your warm-up journal from 1-5.  You will watch a different ASL teacher sign a quiz about housing vocabulary and giving directions.

NUMBER 1  You see that man over there, Brian? He lives in a medium sized, old house.

NUMBER 2  You see that woman over there named Tina? She lives in a small, but new apartment.

NUMBER 3  Where’s the women’s restroom? Straight down the hall, third door on the left, next to the elevator.

NUMBER 4  Where’s the office? Upstairs, on the second floor near the water fountain.

NUMBER 5  Where’s the cafeteria? You have to go outside because it’s in a different building. Go all the way across to the next building, and it’s on the first floor. Go down the hall and turn right. It’s near the Coke machine.

WARM-UP 10/23  In your own words, describe what the NMS/facial expressions for distance is used/looks like. Ex: When you sign about something nearby, what do you do with your face and hands?  Get out your “cardinal and ordinal numbers” worksheet.

NOW YOU TRY Ask your classmates where to find various things and describe how to get there from my classroom. Choose things like: ISS, Cafeteria, Front office, nurse’s office, gym, science class, etc.

WARM-UP 10/27  Come to the board and write down one shopping-related vocabulary word. Write your real name next to your word so I can keep track. Ex: SHOPPING -Strother

WHAT ARE YOU WEARING? PART 2  With the person next to you, sign everything that you are wearing. Include the color. Sign order? In general, top to bottom. Also, large details first, then the smaller details.

THRIFT STORE RELAY RACE  A’s on the left, B’s on the right  Line leaders will sign what you need to look for. Next-in-line will find it and put it on, confirm that it’s right, take it off, and become line leader. Continue until all have had a turn to do both.

WARM-UP 11/3  What challenges might you face if you were Deaf and wanted to go shopping?  I need 3 brave volunteers.

HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE CLOTHING?  Many things are fingerspelled, like D-E-N-I-M, K-H-A-K-I, P-A-I-S-L-E-Y, etc.  Make it visual: draw the design, demonstrate the length of the material Short sleeve Long sleeve ¾ sleeve Sleeveless Spaghetti strap Tube top Etc.

DESCRIPTIONS  Describe as much detail as possible: What kind of clothing is it? What color? What length? What size? Any special details? How would you describe its look or feel?

WARM-UP 11/4  Describe the look and/or feel of the clothes you are wearing today: Greenish/blue shirt with buttons Colorful skirt, long Brown shoes

MEET IN GROUPS OF 3  3 roles: holder, signer, guesser  Holder: stand behind the guesser so they cannot see you. Take a piece of clothing out of the box.  Signer: describe the piece of clothing to the guesser  Guesser: draw the piece of clothing on the whiteboard. Check with the holder when finished.  Rotate until I tell you to stop.

DESIGNER CLOTHING  You will individually design a full outfit to present to your classmates.  You must include at least 4 items and describe how they look or feel.

DESIGNER CLOTHING  Due tomorrow!  MUST be colored and labeled with what you will sign. Ex: Silky gold shirt, black belt, black skirt, black boots.

REMEMBER YOUR LETTER AND NUMBER!  Get out your completed clothing design and be ready to group up and sign about them.  Test is tomorrow!!
