Describing Matter

Physical Properties of Matter All substances or objects have physical properties. Physical properties are those characteristics of an object or substance that can be observed without changing it into something else.

Physical Change A physical change is a change in size, shape, or state of an object. No new substances are formed. Physical changes can be reversed.

Chemical Change A chemical change results in the formation of a new substance with new properties Chemical changes are NOT reversible.
