Mark 6:7-29

 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”  41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Mark 4:40-41 (ESV)

 6 And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him.  7 And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.”  8 For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” Mark 5:6-8 (ESV)

 15 And they came to Jesus and saw the demon- possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.  16 And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs.  17 And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region. Mark 5:15-17 (ESV)

 18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him.  19 And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”  20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled. Mark 5:18-20 (ESV)

 33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth.  34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” Mark 5:33-34 (ESV)

 41 Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”  42 And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement. Mark 5:41-42 (ESV)

 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him…  6 And he marveled because of their unbelief. Mark 6:3,6 (ESV)

 7 And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.  12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent.  13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them. Mark 6:7,12-13 (ESV)

 μετανο έ ω, metanoeō  Usage Notes: lit., "to perceive afterwards" (meta, "after," implying "change," noeō, "to perceive;" nous, "the mind, the seat of moral reflection"), in contrast to pronoeō, "to perceive beforehand," hence signifies "to change one's mind or purpose," always, in the NT, involving a change for the better, an amendment  —Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words

 1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,  2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”  3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.’ ” Matt 3:1-3 (ESV)

 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?  8 Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.  9 And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.  10 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Matt 3:7-10 (ESV)

 12 Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee.  13 And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali…  17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matt 4:12,13,17 (ESV)

 14 King Herod heard of it, for Jesus’ name had become known. Some said, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.”  15 But others said, “He is Elijah.” And others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.” Mark 6:14-15 (ESV)

 16 But when Herod heard of it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.”  17 For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her.  18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” Mark 6:16-18 (ESV)

 19 And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not,  20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly. Mark 6:19-20 (ESV)

 21 But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.  22 For when Herodias’s daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”  23 And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.” Mark 6: (ESV)

 24 And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.”  25 And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”  26 And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. Mark 6:24-26 (ESV)

 27 And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prison  28 and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.  29 When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb. Mark 6:27-29 (ESV)

While on a visit to Rome Herodias' uncle and brother- in-law, Herod Antipas, fell in love with her and proposed marriage, to which she readily assented. He then divorced his first wife, the daughter of Aretas VI., King of Arabia, and, contrary to Jewish law, married Herodias. This union brought misfortune to Antipas. It first involved him in a war with Aretas, who wished to avenge his abandoned daughter; then Herodias, who had married Antipas from motives of ambition, urged him to appeal to Caligula for the royal title, an appeal which brought about his downfall. –Jewish Encyclopedia.com

 6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.  8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith.  9 But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men. 2 Tim 3:6-9 (ESV)

 Unwilling to believe regardless of the evidence… “marveled because of their unbelief.”  Unwilling to repent – change their mind: Agree with God regarding their condition before him and turn from their sin to Him.  “always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.”

 “the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him.” Mark 5:18  68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” John 6:68-69 (ESV)
