We are looking forward to another exciting, busy year here at St Matthew’s. Staff have been very busy over the summer planning the curriculum and preparing for the year ahead. Due to increased numbers Mrs Vear and Mrs Johnston will both be working in school part time. We also welcome Miss K Conway, she will be in school two days each week as a volunteer, as part of her level 3 teaching assistant qualification. We are also delighted to welcome Mrs L Eckersley, new school cook, early reports from the children are very good. As always we welcome anyone who would like to help in school for anything from listening to readers to assisting in craft sessions or mounting work for display etc. Please let me know if you would like to help. We have already welcomed nine new children Olivia Armstrong, Yasmin Brown, Codie Elliot, Isabella Henderson, Jake Mashiter, Alfie Sanderson, Thom Sanderson, Sophie Scott and Rebecca Williamson into our reception class. (See back page for photo). The transition from pre-school to school has been really smooth as they all know school really well from attending pre-school. Our theme this term is SPACE AND PLANETS. As always we have an open door policy at St Matthew’s and if anyone has any problems of difficulties regarding your child do not hesitate to get in touch. Mrs Satterthwaite. FOREST SCHOOL On Friday 11 th Sept it’s Receptions turn to do Forest School. They will need to bring old clothes and wellies tomorrow. RUGBY TOURNAMENT On Monday 14 th Sept. Class two are taking part in a Rugby Tournament at Aspatria RUFC. They will need trainers or boots, warm outer clothing and a drink. We will provide the shorts and shirt. We will be back by 3.15pm.
Healthy snacks are available for children to purchase on Wednesday’s. 50p maximum. SWIMMING Swimming classes begin for Reception, Y1 and Y2 on Monday 14 th September. Once again we are swimming at Sandylands and Claire Elliot will be the instructor. Children will need: Swimming trunks or swimming costume Armbands if they use them Large towel A method of tying up long hair (goggles are optional) Class two will start swimming lessons next term. DINNER MONEY As you are all aware Reception, Y1 and Y2 children are receiving universal free school meals, therefore no payment is necessary. Cost of dinners remain the same at £2.40 per day £12 per week. Class two children should bring their payment in on Monday’s. The money should be in an envelope or purse with the child/children’s names, the date and the amount enclosed written on the envelope or on a piece of paper. SCHOOL MILK School milk costs £5 up to half term except for reception children who receive free milk. NUT ALLERGY Children are allowed to bring a healthy snack into school to eat during morning break time. Parents please be aware that one of our children has a nut allergy and may have a severe reaction if he comes into contact with nuts. We ask parents to be very careful when choosing their children’s snack and to avoid sending any snacks which may contain nuts. COMMUNITY LUNCH We are continuing to provide community lunches to the general public on Wednesday mornings. They cost £5 each for a home cooked main course and pudding. If you would like to come or know someone who would like to come please let any member of staff know. Carry out meals are also provided.
GAMES AND PE CLASS 1(Reception, Y1 Y2)Monday and Wednesday CLASS 2(Y3, Y4, Y5 & Y6)Tuesday and Thursday Children should bring the following items: Class 1 A T-shirt, shorts, suitable footwear (gym shoes or trainers) Warm jumper, track suit bottoms during cold weather Class 2A t-shirt or football shirt, socks and shorts, suitable footwear (gym shoes or trainers – football boots are desirable but not essential) Warm jumper, tracksuit bottoms during cold weather. As the playing field may be wet all children MUST have a change of socks and shoes for outdoor games. In the interest of hygiene, PE trainers should not be the same as school shoes and children should NOT wear jewellery during Game and PE lessons. If ears have recently been pierced then children should bring plasters from home to protect their ears. As we frequently have sports coaches coming into school at irregular times, it is usually easier of PE kit is brought in on Monday and returned home on Friday. ASPATRIA RUFC SUNDAY MORNING COACHING CLASSES They are held every Sunday morning for 6-13 year olds am to am with qualified Coaches and Safeguarding Officer in attendance.
