Presentation transcript:

Dear Patrol, I regret to inform all of you that I have a seminar at Grassfield High. I did however take the time to do all of the brute work, you just need to read it. Reid, if I haven't told you already you are completely in charge. Give the newer scouts the easiest pages and most responsible the hardest. Some people might get two. To all of you, talk loudly. Those little kids will yell at you if you don’t. Some are very rude although most are ok. Along with that, don’t read directly off of these pages. Try to look up as you talk. Talk to them not the page. You don’t even need to memorize the page just go over the information. Be mature and if someone DID bring candy ALWAYS check with allergy information. Also, if the presentation is too long cut out some parts/bullets. Test it before presenting. Give out candy at the end. Good luck to all of you. Sorry I’m not there to make sure everything goes as planned.

Intro Whoever is reading this, don’t look directly at the page and read everything around as it’s written. Good evening. Tonight, our patrol will be going over the back to basics camping trip and the summer camp information. They’re a lot of fun and create tons of memories. *Optional to add more* The first thing we will be talking about is the back to basics camping trip. 1

What’s Back To Basics? The Back To Basics camping trip is the first trip you will take with us as a boy scout. It is the trip that will start to make you understand the program. We go over many things you need for scout and tenderfoot rank. Our troop usually gives the class for the totem and firemen's chip at this camping trip. These give you the ability to make fires and cut wood safely. Something that’s different about this camping trip is that parents don’t have to go. Although they are permitted, they 100% don’t need to. It offers a different experience than Cub Scout camping. Before we continue, are there any questions on Back To Basics? (Quickly ask) Our next topic is basic summer camp information. 2

Summer Camp Boy Scout summer camps are one of the most amazing things we do. Almost all troops go to one yearly. These offer many amazing activities for scouts. Aside from the merit badges we get, summer camps have many side activities. If you don’t know, merit badges are the small patches that we put on our sashes to indicate what we have done. Although it is not against the rules, parents very rarely come to the summer camps with their kids. These summer camps give plenty of freedom. You have to always be with a buddy but when moving from merit badge to merit badge station, you don’t have an adult. For first years however, there is one catch. This next topic is on first year programs. 3

First Year Programs For each first year scout going to summer camp, you participate in a program with all of your peers that has limited merit badges and goes over basic requirements for many ranks. You get requirements for tenderfoot, second class, and first class. The merit badges most of these programs offer are some of the most important to get. They usually have some eagle required badges and a fun badge. It really depends on the camp you go to. This is a fantastic program to boost you ahead of everyone that doesn’t go to summer camp. This next topic is some information about some merit badge information on summer camp. 4

Reid *Go over some merit badge information for summer camp. If you really need to wing it. Give a few examples and explain how summer camp is a good way to get lots of merit badges in a short amount of time. Tell them that they can get up to five merit badges in one week but also say it depends on the badges you take. Just go over it. We talked about this.* “Our next topic is on some of the more fun side activities summer camps offer.”

Side Activities Summer camps aren't all merit badges and requirement check-offs. Most summer camps have many night-time or free time activities that you can participate in. A few of these could include; A zipline Pools Lakes A blob (Long inflatable tube that someone jumps on and sends someone else flying) Shotgun, rifle, or archery time. Night time activities such as; tie dye, night time hikes, games like kickball or soccer, and many more. But these are just a basic few activities SOME summer camps offer. This next year, when we go, some of the activities will not be offered. Most are offered though.

High Adventure Information Most summer camps offer something called high adventure courses. These are amazingly fun and take up the whole week. If you take one you can’t to the base-camp merit badge program though. These fast and extreme courses consist of many parts. Each Part depends on what course you take. Some of these include; Whitewater rafting Whitewater canoeing Gun activities Trips like Busch Gardens Sailing Rock climbing Hiking ATV’s Backpacking And many more exciting things. There is one catch to these things however. You must be 14 to participate in many of the courses. You might not be able to do it now but it gives you something to look forward to in the future.

Ending Are there any question regarding summer camp or Back To Basics? *after finished letting them as questions our patrol should ask questions* *Give out candy freely, give everyone one piece by the end.*
