NURSING INFORMATICS IN EUROPE By: MS. GLADYS D. PAPA, RN

NURSING INFORMATICS Is the ‘science and practice integrates nursing, its information and knowledge, with management of information and communication technologies to promote the health of people, families, and communities worldwide ’ ( IMIA Special Interest Group on Nursing Informatics, 2009)

EUROPE Changes in Europe define by each member states in the European Union, and also with the E-Health initiatives and comparative data on the continent. Nursing Informatics groups update the use of terminologies and conduct Nursing Informatics Education throughout Europe.

EUROPE The Nursing Informatics groups in Europe works with cooperation and collaboration with other International Informatics group and linkages.

IMIA ( INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL INFORMATICS ASSOCIATION Established in 1989 under Swiss law. An independent organization which was originally established on 1967 as Technical Committee 4 of International Federation for Information processing.

IMIA IMIA plays a major role in the application of information science and technology in the fields of healthcare and research in medical, health and bio-informatics. The basic goals and objectives of the association are to: promote informatics in health care and research in health, bio and medical informatics. advance and nurture international cooperation.

IMIA to stimulate research, development and routine application. move informatics from theory into practice in a full range of health delivery settings, from physician's office to acute and long term care. further the dissemination and exchange of knowledge, information and technology.

IMIA promote education and responsible behaviour. represent the medical and health informatics field with the World Health Organization and other international professional and governmental organizations.

AMIA IMIA's goals as a bridging organization: moving theory into practice by linking academic and research informaticians with care givers, consultants, vendors, and vendor-based researchers. leading the international medical and health informatics communities throughout the 21st century.

IMIA promoting the cross-fertilization of health informatics information and knowledge across professional and geographical boundaries. serving as the catalyst for ubiquitous worldwide health information infrastructures for patient care and health research.

IMIA- ACTIVITIES MedInfo- known as World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics. It provides a high quality scientific exchange of current research and thinking in health and biomedical informatics. Working and Special Interest Groups- consist of individuals sharing particular common field. The group gives opportunity to individuals to share and collaborate with other individuals.

EFMI ( EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF MEDICAL INFORMATICS) Founded on 1976 The objectives of the European Federation for Medical Informatics are: · To advance international cooperation and the dissemination of information in health informatics · To promote high standards in the application of health informatics,

EFMI · To promote research and development in health informatics · To encourage high standards in education in health informatics, and · To function as the autonomous European Regional Council of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA).

EFMI They are focus on information development Group are numbered according to its set. And Nursing, Midwives and Health Visitors belongs to EFMI-WG5 or the BCS Nursing Specialist Group. EFMI Working Group 5 aims to support nurses and nursing organisations in the European countries with information and contacts and the field of informatics.

AIMS OF NURSING WORKING GROUP To support nurses and nursing organisation in European countries Offer opportunities to build contact networks within informatics field Support education of nurses in respect of informatics and computing To support research and developmental work to promote European Research and Development

NURSING WORKING GROUP PROJECTS AIM ( the Advance Informatics in Medicine) Programme -an exploratory project, consisting 42 projects. Started on It has a broad application of information and communication technologies. TELENURSE- seeks to promote a consensus among nurses in Europe, with use of emerging International Classification of Nursing Practice to see comparisons of nursing practices across several European countries. NIGHTINGALE – attend to user needs and provide education.

EUROPE The future plans for development of Nursing Informatics include expansion of data acquisition, statistical analysis and tools into a better and comprehensive one.
