An Interview with Big Nate For my February R&E, I read the book Big Nate: In a Class by Himself. For the assignment, I have decided to interview Big Nate and find out why he is such a mischievous 6 th grader who gets in a lot of trouble at school.

Question 1: Why do you hate school? Nate: “School is super ordinary and boring with lots of homework. Plus, I never get any attention, so I try to create havoc to make it somewhat fun and interesting.”

Question 2: What do you do to make school fun? Nate: “I do lots of things that usually get me in trouble, but make school fun. Today I got into a series of trouble. For one, I forged an excuse note for a test I thought I had to take. Then in Mr. Rosa’s art class, I tried to swap the winning piece of art work with my own. At lunch, I tried to eat 148 servings of green beans and set a school record. Unfortunately I got caught and received detention slips for all of these things.”

Question 3: Who are your friends at school? Nate: “My two best friends are Teddy and Francis. Teddy can be annoying at times, but is super funny. Francis is really smart and always gets A’s on tests. Francis is the one who caught me forging the excuse note and told me there was no social studies test. Teddy gave me a fortune cookie that said ‘Today you will surpass all others.’ I really don’t believe in fortune cookies, but this one sounded like something I could easily do, so I totally believed it.”

Question 4: Do you have a girlfriend? Nate: “I wish my girlfriend was Jenny Jenkins. She is a girl I met in elementary school and is the love of my life. Unfortunately, she’s dating my arch-nemesis, Artur. He’s an exchange student who took away my #1 ranking in chess club.”

Question 5: Do you have any favorite subjects? Nate: “I don’t have any favorite subjects, but I do have favorite days. They are listed from best to worst.” A. Field trip days (THE BEST!) B. Special event days C. Substitute teacher days D. Normal days E. Train wrecks (THE WORST!)

Question 6: What’s the most detentions you ever received in one day? Nate: “The most I ever received was 7. My supervisor, Ms. Czerwicki told me that I surpassed all others in having the most detention slips. When she told me this, I realized the fortune that Teddy gave me had come true. I did surpass all others and appointed myself the school record holder for most detentions.”
