What We Do Monitor compliance with the Common Assessment Plan (CAP) – –Criminal Background Check – April 26-27, 9 – noon and 12:30 – 5 p.m. need appointment Currently $54 (cash, Visa, MasterCard, or money order) –Bloodborne Pathogen Training –Safety Education Module –Student Teaching Agreement –GPA (content, professional education, UI, and overall) –Grades in content/professional education

Certificate/License Moving to new system by July 1, 2013 –Illinois Professional Educator License Requires completion of an approved program Successful completion of the testing requirements Successful completion of any additional requirements ISBE establishes Must be at least 20 years of age

Endorsements An endorsement is a statement appearing on a certificate that identifies the specific subjects or grade level that the certificate holder is authorized to teach Will qualify for at least one HS and one MG Subsequent endorsements require additional coursework in a specific content area

Endorsements High School endorsements out of major –Can acquire at initial certification or later Later = additional fee Requirements vary depending on endorsement Typically 24 hours upper-level Some exceptions – Science/Social Science/ESL Check Council website

Endorsements Middle grade endorsements (grades 6-8) –Broad based –Typically 18 hours in subject –Exceptions: math/ESL (CI/DEIL) –State needs: math, science, foreign language, ESL, bilingual

Science/Social Science Grades 9-12 Requires 32 hours of coursework, 12 hours in one of the designations below, and coursework in at least two other designations. Will be tested on all designations. Science: Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space Science, Environmental Science, Physics (MG=General Science or Biological and/or Physical Science) Social Science: History, Psychology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology -- Your designation is History. (MG = Social Science) Can teach ALL social sciences or sciences at introductory level Must be endorsed in subsequent designation to teach AP or honors courses

New ISBE Rule Effective February 1, 2012 –Social Science and Science endorsements To be endorsed in a subsequent designation in the field you must have completed 12 hours of coursework in the subject area of the designation and pass the applicable content-area test (AP/Honors) Social Science (History, Psychology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology) Science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space Science, Environmental Science, Physics)

Testing No tests first year of program Appropriate content-area test –Must take/pass prior to student teaching (New ISBE requirement) APT Grades 6-12 –Must pass in order to pass student teaching (New ISBE requirement)
