The new CLC-USA organizational framework CLC-USA Working Group Pittsburgh Leadership Assembly June 23 rd – 26 th, 2011

Grace to be desired To better follow Christ as a body as we seek to discern a framework for the “new way of being together” in CLC-USA

Outline of Exercise 1 Presentation (20 minutes) – The WG’ s discernment process – Key assumptions that guided the WG’s work – Overview of the Framework Clarification questions (10 minutes) Reflections (3 hours) Personal Small group Large group

Few words about the Working Group (WG) Our mandate: Deliver a draft of a framework without all the details Invited to serve the body of CLC Our mantra: “By the love vested in us” Bring our experience and love of CLC

Our Discernment Process Input Experiences Challenges

Grouping of Guiding Principles Overarching Guiding Principles Organization of communities National “governing body” Ongoing governing body National management team Revision of Bylaws

Key assumptions that guided our work The organization structure needs to support local communities to grow in the CLC way of life Reflect the General Principles and General Norms of CLC Develop relationships and bonds of community Reflect our lived experience Be dynamic, life giving, empowering and adaptable Provide structure for “affinity” groups

“Affinity” Group GP 39a – “… It is a great help that these communities be composed of members of like qualities, such as age, occupation, or state of life,… “ Sharing some common ground Some basis of connection Some similar interest & experience

Framework IS NOT An organization chart Step by step re- structuring plan IS An overall vision A frame to build on A high level relational system

FRAMEWORK MODELS

Circles of Relationship Local Community Clusters Grouping of Communities Centers Grouping of Clusters Affinity Groups CLC-USA Governance Body CLC-USA National Community World CLC

Some remarks on A New Way To Be One Takes time Requires continuous discernment Is not a quick fix of the existing structure Is something to be lived into, with clear direction and shepherding Is a gradual process of relationship development and integration Is about a deepening of who we are, what we are called to be Emphasizes the importance of function to determine structure

Reflection Questions What are your feelings after the framework presentation? What are the points in the presentation that were not clear to me? What are the parts of what was presented that attract or “seem right” to me? What disturbs or concerns me?
