 2 nd Journal Entry  Define Search Engines  Internet Scavenger Hunt! Objective: The student will be able to: Perform searches and explain how to refine searches to retrieve better information. Identify resources for finding information in addition to ranking based search engines.

 A program that searches documents for specified keywords and returns a list of the documents where the keywords were found.programkeywords  like Google, Alta Vista and Excite that enable users to search for documents on the World Wide Web.

 Those wishing to locate something would enter a query about what they’d like to find and the engine provides links to content that matches what they want.

Google - The world's most popular search engine. Bing Search: Microsoft's entry into the burgeoning search engine market. Better late than never. Yahoo! Search: The 2nd largest search engine on the web (as defined by a September 2007 Nielsen Netratings report. Nielsen Netratings AltaVista: Launched in 1995, built by researchers at Digital Equipment Corporation's Western Research Laboratory. From 1996 powered Yahoo! Search, since Yahoo technology powers AltaVista.
