2 Mercy Ships History Established in 1978 Medical relief services Anastasis becomes hospital ship in 1986 First field service in Africa – Togo 1990 Africa Mercy largest private hospital ship in the world – on line in 2007 Long-Term Strategy development 2009

3 Long-Term Strategy National focus, regional impact Multi-phased, multi-year Partnership with existing efforts Focus on strategic hospitals –Training –Facilities –Systems

4 Collaboration Mercy Ships to align efforts with the MOHS National Health Sector Strategic Plan (NHSSP) NHSSP, implementation of free maternal and child care and efforts to facilitate payment of health workers influenced our choice for Sierra Leone Work alongside other development partners and the MOHS to help improve services – especially in strategic hospitals
