Title I Annual Parent Meeting May 3, 2016

What is a Title I School? A school that receives funding from the U.S. Department of Education to meet the needs of at-risk and low-income students

How is a school identified as being Title I? Large concentration of low income students – Based on free and reduced lunch numbers Minimum of 40% of students must be enrolled in free and reduced lunch

What are the requirements that SWLE must meet to remain Title I? 40% of students must receive free or reduced lunch Complete a schoolwide plan that is based on an annual comprehensive Needs Assessment Create a school-parent compact that encourages a united effort to help SWLE students be successful academically Create a Parent Involvement Plan based on the results of the needs assessment

Parent Involvement ( A copy of the school’s Parent Involvement Policy is available on the school’s website and hard copies have been provided.) The statute defines parental involvement as the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring— – that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning; – that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school; – that parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child; and – that other activities are carried out, such as those described in section 1118 of the ESEA (Parental Involvement). [Section 9101(32), ESEA.]

How are Title I funds spent at SWLE? Teacher salaries Instructional Coach Balance spent on things such as the following: Chromebooks, technology equipment, books, computer software Parent Involvement, especially academic items that can be used to help your child at home

SWLE Parent Survey Results 2016 (Surveys were available to complete online. Paper copies were sent home to all who requested one, including Spanish version if needed. 206 parents took the survey.)

Parental Involvement Survey Results Strengths: Feel child is safe at school: 99% Secure, clean, and attractive setting provided by physical facilities where the emphasis is on academic achievement: 99% Immediate and specific feedback is provided to students who are continuously monitored and assessed: 99% Well informed of activities at school: 98% Believe the school is parent-friendly: 97% Students are provided recognition for success: 97%

Parental Involvement Survey Results Strengths: Receiving clear information on child’s academic progress: 96% Have opportunities to become involved in activities that support the instructional program: 95% Feel parent’s opinion is considered when decisions are made concerning his/her child: 95%

Parental Involvement Survey Results Strengths: Teachers show care and encouragement when working with students and pay attention to student interests, problems, successes, both in and out of the classroom: 95% Staff sets high academic expectations for students: 93% Helpful information for helping parents with their children at home is provided: 91% Familiar with Teacher-Parent-Student Compact Agreement: 80%

Parental Involvement Survey Results Weaknesses: 46% of parents surveyed have attended the annual Title I meeting 60% provided input in the school’s improvement planning 54% provided input on the Parent Involvement Plan 32% provided input on the Teacher-Parent-Student Title I Compact Agreement. 21% provided input on the use of parent involvement funds 14% provided input on the Schoolwide Plan
