Parent Resources for Student Success

Credit Recovery Information Students NEED 26 credits to graduate There is little/no room for failure Credit Recovery or Summer School is necessary to make-up failed core classes Credit Recovery costs $150 per ½ credit, there is a discount for students on free and reduced lunch Summer School costs $200 per ½ credit

Credit Recovery Information Scenario: ◦Your child has failed English 9A (.50 Credit) and 9B (.50 Credit) ◦You will pay $300 for credit recovery- $150 per ½ credit

Credit Recovery Information If your child has failed a class please encourage them to meet with a counselor as soon as possible, to create a credit recovery plan.

Strategies to Avoid Failure and Promote Success

Communication Powerschool is a resource provided for parents & students. Powerschool allows you to check your child’s attendance and to monitor current academic performance in each of their classes.

How to use Powerschool Go to rrps.net Select Parents on the drop down menu and then select Powerschool You will need to enter a username and password, which you can sign up for today if you do not already have one

Powerschool Continued Once you have logged onto Powerschool you will be able to view your child’s classes, grades, and attendance.

Powerschool Continued If you notice that some of your child’s grades are low, you can click on those particular classes and view what assignments they have missing.

School Fusion Pages Another great way to stay connected with your child’s day to day activities is to check teacher schoolfusion pages. These pages are designed to help parents & students see what goes on in the classroom, on a day to day basis. These pages include worksheets that are done in class, due dates, and additional resources for student support. In addition, students and parents are able to send teacher’s assignments or questions, through the feature provided on the pages.

Parent Strategies for Student Success It is encouraged that you discuss school with your children on a daily basis…”How was your day?” “What did you do in class?” “How did that Math test go?” Opening up the lines of communication will help your children succeed. Talk openly with teachers either through or telephone conversations Check schoolfusion and powerschool regularly Encourage your children to advocate for themselves, especially if they have been absent.

Tutoring Options

What RRHS Offers To access tutoring options for your child you can go to rrps.net Select the Counselors tab on the left hand side of the page On the right hand side of the page you will find a file labeled RRHS tutoring options, which contains a list of teachers on campus that offer additional assistance

What RRHS Offers Students can receive additional assistance from the FINO program This program offers tutoring in the media center (library) on Tuesday and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 This service is provided at no cost

Khan Academy Students can access the Khan Academy extensive online library of content, including interactive challenges, assessments, and videos from any computer with access to the web. This website will challenge students with interactive games and videos that may help reintroduce or explain challenging concepts in a unique way.

Khan Academy Continued The website covers mathematics, science, and the humanities. The website and its resources are available at no cost

Study Strategies Parents can help students succeed from the home by: Providing an area free from distractions. Setting aside a space in the home that is away from disturbances like the television or radio. The space should have necessary resources like dictionaries, paper, pencils.

Study Strategies Parents should limit phone use and monitor computer activity, until homework is complete. Encourage your children to stay organized with an agenda and folders, check their agenda to make sure they are staying up to date with their assignments. Encourage short breaks, to keep the mind fresh.
