Reading for Pleasure - a Performance Task Suggested for Intermediate & Proficient High School Students

Students choose a book of their choice according to their level and approved by the teacher.

Students choose… 2 Red Cards 3 Green Cards 1 Blue Card Go to grade

Discuss the specific requirements with your teacher. When you are finished, you will present your final product in class and discuss it for 5-10 minutes. Choose ONE Blue Card

Blue Card 1 Write a book review that might be published in a newspaper. Check out this link It could help you get started.

Blue Card 2 Write an original poem that expresses the plot of your book. This site could inspire you!

Blue Card 3 Prepare a list of questions to find out if other people read this book carefully.

Blue Card 4 Make a travel poster inviting tourists to visit the setting of your book.

Blue Card 5 Interview at least two characters from the book. Why did you attack the village?

Blue Card 6 Rewrite the story as a picture book. Use simple vocabulary so that younger students can enjoy and understand your version.

Blue Card 7 Write a feature news story about the book that tells the story as it might be found on the front page of a newspaper. Remember to give it a headline.

Blue Card 8 Make a timeline showing the most important events that happened in the book.

Green Card 3 Choose three words from the book and find them a pair that sounds the same, although it is spelled differently (homophones). For example: knight night.

Green Card 5 Find five words in your book that have a silent letter or a silent syllable. For example: knife light.

Green Card 6 Find three words in your book that are antonyms (opposites). Write the words and their antonyms. ≠ For example: Hot cold

Green Card 7 Find five words in you book that have double consonants. For example: Fiddle smell

Green Card 8 Find three words in your book that contain at least three syllables. Use a dictionary to divide the words into syllables and mark the accent. For example: dic / tion / a / ry

Alphabetize all the words in the last two sentences of your book. For example: And that is the end of the story  And – end – is – of – story – that – the - Green Card 9
