Staring point: Skowhegan, ME Downtown Skowvegas.

Destination: San Diego, CA

Route: East coast to West coast owhegan&1s=ME&2c=San+Diego&2s= CAhttp:// owhegan&1s=ME&2c=San+Diego&2s= CA

The first theme is Location, Location, Location: Where is it? Broken into 2 Parts A. ABSOLUTE B. RELATIVE

ABSOLUTE LOCATION Absolute Location is the exact location of a place. On a global level latitude and longitude is used, while on a more local level, street addresses are used. What is the absolute location of Skowhegan Area High School?

Absolute Location Skowhegan, ME Is located at N Latitude and W Longitude. The elevation is 171 feet San Diego, CA Is located at N. Latitude and W Longitude. The elevation is 72 feet.

Relative Location Relative Location is where a place is located in relation to other places. Maine is located in the north eastern part of the U.S. and is bordered by New Hampshire and Canada California is located on the west coast of the U.S between Oregon and Baja California. Mexico’s northern most province.

Relative Location Skowhegan is located in central Maine along the Kennebec River. San Diego is located in Southern California along the pacific coast and is one of the most southern cities.

PLACE - What is it like? Broken into: A.Physical Characteristics B. Cultural Characteristics

Place - Physical Characteristics When you describe a place in physical characteristics you’ll include such things as: climate, topography, vegetation and water. Anything that nature produces!

Place - Cultural Characteristics Cultural Characteristics of a place would include population, building style, languages spoken, transportation systems and more.

Human Environment Interaction: How do Humans and the environment interact? 1.Use 2.Adapt 3.Change

Human Environment Interaction Use- 110 gallons of gasoline will be burnt during my 3,300 mile trip. Adapt- I will need to pack summer clothes to adapt to San Diego’s Mediterranean climate. Sun screen will be key as well. Change- 2,134 Ibs of Carbon will be released into the atmosphere during my trip increasing global warming.

Movement: How people and places stay connected? People goods and ideas are connected in three ways: A.Transportation B.Communication C.Interdependence

Movement: A.Transportation- Car, Trains, Sub-Way, Trolley, Boats, B.Communication- Cell phones, On-star, GPS, Maps C.Interdependence- Gasoline, Food, Shelter (Hotels),

REGION: What makes it like other places? The uniting characteristic can be either:physical or cultural. Physical Cultural

REGION: Physical Characteristics For example California, Oregon and Washington are all part of the coastal west region. All have coast lines on the Pacific and have similar climate. Maine is part of the New England region which shares similar topography and climate.

Region: Cultural Characteristics Maine: Industry based economy, Tourism, Agriculture, Fishing. California: Tourism, Agriculture, Fishing, Tech Industry, (Microsoft, Aero Space,).
