Portfolio Holder Key Priorities : Continue the leisure transformation programme with the completion of a new facility at Djanogly and make progress on the replacement for Victoria Leisure Centre. Ensure that each modernised Library in the City has community engagement at the heart of its services. Ensure that Nottingham has a quality international sports, heritage, cultural events and festivals programme, which involves all of our communities Continue with the substantial improvements in our parks, open spaces and playgrounds where approval rating has already substantially improved this year. Deliver a programme of 30 apprenticeships for parks and heritage sites. Deliver a City wide range of customer service improvements across the Council, ensuring that the authority has a culture of learning from its mistakes.

Leisure Transformation – replacement Victoria Leisure Centre  New £9 million Centre  Completion scheduled for 2012.

Modernised Libraries and community engagement(1)  Redevelopment work at the Central Library– together with opening of the new City Contact Centre in August will provide customers with an improved library experience.

Modernised Libraries and community engagement(2) New Bulwell Library – as part of the new Joint Service Centre which is planned to open in January New St. Ann’s Library – as part of the development of a new Joint Service Centre in St. Ann’s which is scheduled to open in March 2012.

Events of International Standing with community involvement British Art Show 7 from 23 October 2010 to 9 January 2011 World Exhibition for Young Artists 2012 Host City World Cup 2018/22 – if England bid is successful Night of Festival 16 – 18 September 2010 featuring Latin American Culture and World Class artists

Improvements in our parks, open spaces and playgrounds(1) Nottingham has gained a record number of 14 Green Flags and 9 Green Pennants in £5.1 m Forest Recreation Ground Restoration Project – Stage 2 Lottery 2 bid to be submitted to Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery for approval late New Play area on Victoria Embankment

Improvements in our parks, open spaces and playgrounds(2) Parks and Open Spaces Development Team have to date secured over £10 million of Funding to drive forward Improvements to Parks, Play Areas, Allotments, and nature conservation areas. Advanced works are currently being carried out to secure a number of major bids from the Lottery and Section106 which will be delivered over the next 3 years. The funding has largely come from a range of external agencies e.g. Heritage Lottery Fund, Section 106, Wren, Sport England, Department for Children, Schools and Families, PCT etc. 2006/07£ 244, /08£ 465, /09£ 3,910, /10£ 3,283, /11£ 3,040, /12 tbc £ 4,844,666 Total£15,789,025

Apprenticeships for Parks and Heritage sites 30 new horticultural and green space apprentices are now all in post

Customer Service – improving how we deal with people  City Centre Joint Service Centre – opened to the public on the 2nd August 2010 as part of the redevelopment of the Central Library complex.

Achievements over the last year – Leisure Transformation New £6.44 million Djanogly Community Leisure Centre – opened to the public on the 6 April 2010.

Achievements over the last year – Free swimming for under 16s and people aged over 60 Over 12,000 under 16’s have enjoyed free swimming – totalling around 75,000 visits. Nearly 2,000 people aged 60 and over also benefited from the scheme with nearly 45,000 visits to our pools. The Coalition Government took this away.

Achievements over the last year – 50p per day Holiday Sports scheme The City Council and partners offered this alongside the free swimming offer in the summer of 2009, resulting in over 232 hours of activity for young people with some 1250 sessions at City leisure centres alone. This is in danger of being taken away by the Coalition Government.

Achievements over the last year - Modernised Libraries and Community Engagement  After school homework provision - has developed in 2009/10 at Aspley, Bulwell, Radford-Lenton, Hyson Green, Clifton and Meadows Libraries and recently at Basford Library. All attract a range of children from 8- 13yrs.  The Reading Aunties and Uncles project, where volunteers help children with their reading in the library after school has also been a major development at Bilborough, Sneinton and Meadows.

Achievements over the past Year - Events of International Standing with community involvement 20/Twenty Cricket World Cup – held at Trent Bridge in June 2009 Nottingham Contemporary which opened in November 2009, welcomed its 200,000 th visitor on the 27 July Robin Hood exhibition – at the Castle with costumes and props from the new movie – (open 23 March to October 2010).

Achievements over the last year – Arts & Events Nottingham Riviera – 176,904 attendances in Attracting national media attention and benefiting local residents. Splendour – with 13,000 attendances in 2009 was ‘sold out’. Christmas Ice Rink – 52,000 (paying skaters). Light Night – 39,000 attendances Children’s Festival – 39,000 attendances Pride – 11,000 attendances

Achievements over the last year to parks and open spaces – examples include:  Heathfield Park Regenerated - the Parks team worked in partnership with HETRA representatives and young people from the estate to completely transform and improve this neighbourhood park and its play facilities. Green Flag Award Winner.  Highfields Park phase 1 regeneration completed - the parks team worked in partnership with the community pay back team to transform the cascade and Japanese gardens at Highfield Park.

Achievements over the last year –play areas and parks and playground improvements  Over 30 State of the Art Play Areas installed over 2 years - funded through the Government Play Pathfinder scheme. As part of this, two playgrounds in Clifton were given a new look, completing the first stage of a £750,000 year-long programme to transform the area's parks. Play equipment has been replaced on both Breckswood Playground and on Sunninghill Playground, designed with the involvement of children at Dovecote Primary and Nursery School.

Future challenges: my Key Priorities : Continue the leisure transformation programme with the completion of a new facility at Djanogly and make progress on the replacement for Victoria Leisure Centre.
