Improving focus/ideas Revise- to make clear or better. Focus- stay on topic. ***How to revise- 1.Use a strong focused main idea statement. 2.Example: 3.No fairytale is more magical than the life cycle of a butterfly.

Revising tips part 2 Include all important information. add details telling how a butterfly comes from the cocoon. Use only details that focus on main idea. take out I’m not sure lines

When writing define new terms. cocoon –tell what it is. KEEP YOUR PURPOSE IN MIND! If you are comparing lifecycle and magic, keep it up throughout your writing.

ORGANIZATION When you write put ideas in an order that makes sense. Like the human skeleton, organization; holds things together and gives the writing shape.

Ways to Organize writing 1.Story with a beginning, middle, and end. 2.Compare/contrast (tell how they are alike and different) 3.Step by step explanation. 4.Describe from top to bottom

How to choose a main idea and purpose. 1.Start the first paragraph with topic sentences that tell the main idea. Use supporting details to help the main idea. example: house House- good neighborhood, green roof, chimney, windows, landscaping, full of love

Tell events in the order that they happened and use sequence/transitional words: next, first, finally, then. Use connecting words. words to show differences----but words to show similarities---- and, too

Revising tips 1.Organize your writing around your main idea. (focus on orders, sequence, step by step). 2.Use and order that makes sense (how it happened…use transitional words first, next, finally. 3.Start a new paragraph when the topic shifts. (a. introduction b. mixing c. cooking d. conclusion). 4.Write a conclusion that wraps up your ideas. (Go back to main idea and wrap conclusion around it; This is how you should not make brownies.)
