4 SWAPBox Project – Background September 2010 – August 2011 Phase 2 OER project funded by HEFCE and managed by JISC/HEA Project led by SWAP in conjunction with partners (Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (IRISS); Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE); Centre of Excellence in Interdisciplinary Mental Health (CEIMH) - University of Birmingham; Centre for Human Services Technology (CHST) – University of Southampton) Project supported by School of Electronics and Computer Sciences (ECS) and Library at the University of Southampton

5 SWAPBox Project – Key Aims Creation of Repository for Social Policy and Social Work Teaching Resources Establishment of Diverse Online Community within SWAPBox

6 Who is SWAPBox aimed at? SWAPBox is aimed at anyone involved in Social Policy and/or Social Work Education Registered Users set up Profile Pages that can be customised and where resources they have uploaded are also displayed Profile Pages can also be set up for Projects, Groups and Organisations – individual profiles can be linked to these for affiliation purposes.

7 What kind of resources can I expect to find on SWAPBox/should I upload? Roughly three broad types of resources: Learning materials that can be customised (eg PowerPoint slides, Video clips, Pod casts, Exercises and Tests) Support materials that can be customised (eg User Guides, Templates for Marking/Providing Feedback, Notes and Tips on Processes) Referencing materials that cannot necessarily be customised (eg PDFs of reports or articles) but could be summarised/referenced in learning materials.

11 SWAPBox Member Profile After registration, you receive your own profile page, which is easy to customise Any resources you upload, will be automatically linked to your profile Even if you do not share resources yourself, customising your profile is important: it will give you access to networking and collaboration opportunities with other SWAPBox members sharing your research/teaching interests.

12 Finding Resources Existing Resources can be browsed by a variety of criteria or using the Search function Resources can easily be previewed before you download them.

13 Uploading Resources Resources can be uploaded in a few minutes and information is easy to edit Take a look at the SWAPBox User Guide to display your resource most effectively

14 Commenting on Resources Commenting on a resource you have downloaded and used, is a great way of letting other SWAPBox users know how they might want to integrate the resource in their own teaching.
