 Log In & Open Microsoft Word  Open Practice File:  A Collection of Stories Written for Children ▪ Start Button—Computer--Public Directory—Homework—MS—KKOCHIN— Info Tech—Grade 7—TechnoEditor Folder—Editor Folder  Save As: first initial last name STORY  Save In: Student Directory—COMPAPP folder—Word folder  Open a sticky note & answer the following questions:  What is formatting?  List a formatting example

What is formatting?

Format means to “change the appearance” of something!

 Compare & contrast character, paragraph, and document formatting  Identify and define character formats  Define font and point sizes  Compare and contrast serif and sans serif fonts  Identify and practice several ways of selecting text  Format font, font size, font style, and font color  Highlight text  Insert text effects  Apply multiple character formats to text to make it visually appealing and easy-to- read

 Compare & contrast character, paragraph, and document formatting  Adjust line spacing and alignment  Customize and insert bullets and numbers to make a document easy-to-read

 Applied to an entire paragraph NOT just a portion  Example: ▪ Line Spacing & Alignment  Paragraph  Any amount of text that ends with a paragraph mark caused by a hard return (pressing ENTER)

 What type of formatting is applied to an entire paragraph?  Paragraph Formatting  Give an example of a paragraph format.  Line Spacing & Alignment  What is the shortcut for double-spacing? Single- spacing?  CTRL + 2 & CTRL + 1

 What refers to how the text is positioned on the document?  Alignment  What type of alignment would be used for page numbers or dates?  Right Alignment  What type of alignment would be used for a report?  Left Alignment or Justify  What type of alignment would be used for titles or headings?  Center Alignment

Lesson 3 – Class 4

 Identify and define document formats.  Define portrait and landscape orientation.  Identify and practice several ways of changing page orientation.  Define Margins and discuss defaults.  Develop understanding of page breaks and how to insert.

 Applied to an entire document  Insertion point can be anywhere in the document  Applied before or after text is entered ▪ Example: ▪ Margins, Orientation, Headers/Footers, Page Numbers

 Portrait Orientation (Default)  Formats the contents of the document with the SHORT edge of the page at the top  Landscape Orientation  Formats the contents of the document sideways with the LONG edge of the page at the top  How To:  Ribbon Tabs ▪ Page Layout Tab—Page Set-up Group—Margins Button ▪ File Tab—Print Section—Page Set-up Link

 Blank space around the edges of the page  Default: ▪ 1 inch on all sides

 Soft Breaks  Automatically inserted when you fill a page  Hard Breaks  Inserted manually that forces text to another page  How To: ▪ Ribbon ▪ Insert Tab—Pages Group—Break Button ▪ CTRL + ENTER
