WHAT ARE INTERNATIONAL SKILLS PARTNERSHIPS British Council international skills partnerships bring together UK organisations with leading counterpart organisations around the world in order to deliver innovative, output-led projects that focus on enhancing approaches to skills development internationally and delivering sustainable impact. Partnership projects cover a wide range of sectors, from fashion to engineering, and a number of themes including employer engagement, quality assurance, entrepreneurship development and progression routes. Partnership projects are pre-commercial and have at their heart the exchange of knowledge and expertise. 2

ANNUAL PARTNERSHIP SEMINAR 5 Bringing the Learning Home provides invaluable networking opportunities, and acts as a springboard to the further development of international partnerships. Ilham Nasser Al Maskari, Coordinator, Higher College of Technology, Oman Bringing the Learning Home is British Council’s annual International Skills Partnership seminar. It is designed for our established international partnerships and other organisations from around the world interested in addressing skill challenges through international collaboration.

CHARLES DE GAULLE Charles de Gaulle Trust funding is specifically for students aged 17 to 19, the visits give students the chance to prove to future educators and employers that they are globally-minded, committed and dedicated young people. BENEFITS OF CHARLES DE GAULLE TRUST FUNDING An immersive, motivational and inspiring experience in a French partner school or college would provide the opportunity to: improve employability skills engage with French language and culture first- hand provide the opportunity to compare different approaches to work and learn from experts in the field in both countries develop vocational skills in a bilingual environment. 11
FUNDING AVAILABLE Partner schools and colleges in the UK and France can apply for grant funding from the Charles de Gaulle Trust to support reciprocal exchange visits that contribute to their longer-term partnership objectives. Colleges already working together in a partnership can apply jointly for a grant of up to £5,000 per college from the Charles de Gaulle Trust to enable at least five young people aged between 17 and 19, and one or more educators from each school or college, to visit their partner school or college in France/the UK Total grant of £10,000 can be awarded to the partnership. 2 weeks long and 8 days of work in total. Visits should take place within 18 months of acceptance. 12

16 Connecting Classrooms is offering a new funded course for teachers in Wales to develop their practice in relation to teaching the core skills of critical thinking and problem solving. Developed by the British Council, the new Teaching Critical Thinking and Problem Solving training package is available in English and Welsh and delivered in Wales by Think Learn Challenge!.
