Good Morning! 1.Reviewing Ancient Greece Essential Question: What do we need to know for our test tomorrow? Homework: Study for TEST on TOMORROW!

Reviewing Ancient Greece Ancient Greece is the birthplace of Western Civilization The Four Core Values of Western Civilization are… – Rights: power for normal people (ex. Equality), rules that leaders must follow – Reason: using brain to solve problems. Using intelligence to find out what’s right – Individualism: having your own ideas, valuing each person equally, each individual has freedom, each person is important – Democracy: people choose what is going to happen to the country, government ruled by the people, everyone gets a vote What are some examples of ancient Greece supporting AND going against these values? BE SPECIFIC!

Ancient Greece Supporting “Western” Values In Athens, poor people given money to vote  shows democracy and rights In Sparta women are free and go to work/sports -> individualism, also rights In Athens, equal justice for people  rights, treating people equal in democracy Opposing “Western” Values Women in Athens can’t vote and only do indoor work  going against rights Lots of slaves: can’t vote in Athens, lots of them killed in Sparta  rights, individualism because slaves have NO value, reason

Test Review Work either individually or form a group – Write down as much as you know about each term on your review sheet!
