We will be investing in world- leading stem cell research and developmental biology. We estimate that in order to reach early clinical trials in the next five years we will need to spend £50 million

Heart towns Who could benefit from Mending Broken Hearts? The majority of people in the UK living with heart failure People with heart valve disease, as we learn more about how to repair valves. People with poor blood supply to their lower limbs and vital organs Children born with some forms of simple congenital heart disease Thousands of families and carers currently coping with heart disease.

Heart towns ‘ONE DAY’ Working in line with the ‘Mending Broken Hearts’ project, we would like all towns to adopt the ‘One Day’ initiative We want to unite your community and to encourage participation in an activity to raise money purely for the ‘Mending Broken Heart Project’ It could be a walk, ride, run or something that you already have planned within your events calendar that we could join forces on

Heart towns Increased community level of civic pride Greater sense of town identity Enhanced reputation Increasing the health and wellbeing of the community Leading to a reduction in health and welfare costs Heart Towns will, we hope, benefit from the BHF’s wide range of resources and education programmes, so that everyone in the community can learn practical steps on how to improve their heart health The Benefits

Some fundraising and awareness ideas Health & Wellbeing events throughout Torbay Walk to work week Restaurants /Hotels Healthy Eating Message (Red4Heart Day) Think Fit ‘Health at Work’ seminar targeting Torbay based employers Companies sign up for free ‘Health at Work’ programme Torbay Fitness Trail/Heart walk Distribute heart health awareness literature thro BHF shops, clinics, surgeries Encourage uptake of free ‘Heart Matters’ magazine HeartStart training in life saving techniques School Tournament for JRFH and DodgeBall linked to Healthy schools initiative Torbay Half Marathon Santa Dash along 3 promenades Heart Towns

The Cost We are looking for a 5 year partnership programme We would like some form of Heart Town branding. This can be incorporated into your current plans for town signage. We would like to unite Torbay for one day to fundraise for ‘Mending Broken Hearts’. For example, creating a Heart Town Ride/Walk/ Run. This can be based on an existing event. A working party/committee made up of community partners to develop the initiatives further Heart Towns
