Action Research Proposal: Bullying Kaila White EDU671: Fundamentals of Educational Research Benjamin Kirgan

Area of Focus  Help develop ways to implement an anti- bullying program that promotes positive social behavior while decreasing bullying situations.

Explanation of Problem (Sampson, 2002)

Research Questions  Where is Bullying most common?  Do students understand and recognize bullying behaviors?  Are the unstructured environments, where bullying is likely to occur, safer now?  Is there a noticeable reduction in the occurrence of bullying?

Locus of Control  The action research plan is focused on how I can teach students pro-social skills to help end bullying situations in my fourth grade class.

Intervention/Innovation  Intervention will allow others to understand the conditions of what helps a bully engage in bullying activities such as; a location, a victim, and the bully.

Negotiations  Knowledge building programs  Pro-social behavior programs  Permission from parents to use their child in research.

Ethics  Ethical situations are related to the parents of the victims.  Ethical considerations that will be addressed is to keep all names private so that student will not be victimized more from his participation in the study.  Parents will need to be notified so that a parental agreement can be established for their child to participate.

Timeline How and when will data be collected? The Likert Scale will be given to students during the last hour of the first day of school. The student questionnaire will be given out after 45 days of school. This time student will understand what actions could be considered bullying. This questionnaire will be given out a month prior to the end of the school year to apply effectiveness of the plan.  Parent consent forms signed at Open House.  Student Meeting to inform on the research plan on first day of school.
