M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER ASET II INSTRUCTIONS THIS TRAINING MODULE IS SENSITIVE BUT UNCLASSIFIED (SBU) AND WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO UNAUTHORIZED INDIVIDUALS. ADVANCE TO THE MAIN MENU BY PRESSING THE RIGHT ARROW KEY. SELECT A TRAINING MODULE BY PLACING THE MOUSE POINTER OVER THE ACTION BUTTON. ONCE YOU ARE IN A MODULE, YOU MAY MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD BY UTILIZING THE RIGHT AND LEFT ARROW KEYS, RESPECTIVELY. YOU ARE AT THE END OF A MODULE WHEN YOU SEE A “HOME” BUTTON IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER. IF YOU DESIRE TO HEAR A SOUND BITE FOR A PARTICULAR PHASE OF THE TRAINING MODULE, HIT THE SOUND BUTTON. THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO DISPENSE UP TO 30 M-1 CHAFF CARTRIDGES. WHEN DISPENSING CHAFF, THE M-130 IS EFFECTIVE AGAINST PULSE RADARS OPERATING IN THE ____ TO ____ GHz FREQUENCY RANGE AND REDUCES OR ELIMINATES THE ENEMY’S ABILITY TO HIT AND DESTROY AIRCRAFT BY USE OF RADAR-CONTROLLED, ANTI-AIRCRAFT WEAPONS.

DISPENSER CONTROL ASSEMBLY  MOUNTED IN THE REAR COCKPIT, RH SIDE OF INSTRUMENT PANEL  COUNTER IS MANUALLY SET PRIOR TO EACH FLIGHT TO CORRESPOND WITH THE NUMBER OF CHAFF CARTRIDGES LOADED  IT HAS THE NECESSARY CONTROLS TO FIRE CHAFF IN EITHER MANUAL OR PROGRAMMED MODE

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER FUNCTION/LOCATION OF COMPONENTS (cont.) THE COUNTER WILL INDICATE THE NUMBER OF CHAFFS REMAINING IN THE PAYLOAD MODULE ASSEMBLY  IF SET TO THE MAN POSITION, A SINGLE CHAFF CARTRIDGE WILL FIRE EACH TIME THE WAS SWITCH IS PULLED TO THE 6 O’CLOCK POSITION  IF SET TO THE PGRM POSITION, THE NUMBER AND INTERVAL OF CHAFF SET ON THE ELECTRONICS MODULE WILL FIRE ON A SINGLE ACTIVATION OF THE WAS SWITCH  CAUTION  CAUTION: UNLESS SYSTEM TESTING IS IN PROGRESS, THE SWITCH SHOULD NEVER BE PLACED IN THE ARM POSITION BEFORE THE AIRCRAFT IS IN FLIGHT.  THE AMBER ARM LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE WHEN THE SAFE/ARM SWITCH IS PLACED IN THE ARM POSITION AND THE SAFETY PIN IS REMOVED FROM THE SAFETY SWITCH IN THE EM

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER FUNCTION/LOCATION OF COMPONENTS (cont.) ELECTRONICS MODULE ASSEMBLY (EM)  THE EM IS MOUNTED TO THE FORWARD LEFT SIDE OF TAIL BOOM. THE DISPENSER ASSEMBLY IS ATTACHED TO THE SURFACE OF THE EM.

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER FUNCTION/LOCATION OF COMPONENTS (cont.)  IT CONTAINS A PROGRAMMER WHICH ALLOWS FOR THE SETTING OF A CHAFF BURST NUMBER, CHAFF SALVO NUMBER, CHAFF BURST INTERVAL, AND CHAFF SALVO INTERVAL  CABLE ASSEMBLY WHICH INCLUDES A 28 VDC SUPPLY RECEPTACLE  HOLE FOR SAFETY PIN/FLAG ASSEMBLY.

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER FUNCTION/LOCATION OF COMPONENTS (cont.)  CHAFF PROGRAMMING INFORMATION  SALVO COUNT:- PROGRAMS THE NUMBER OF SALVOS (A SALVO IS THE SAME A NUMBER OF BURSTS)  SALVO INTERVAL:- PROGRAMS THE TIME IN SECONDS BETWEEN SALVOS  BURST COUNT: - PROGRAMS THE NUMBER OF CHAFF CARTRIDGES THAT ARE FIRED IN ONE SALVO.  BURST INTERVAL: - PROGRAMS THE TIME INTERVAL IN TENTHS OF A SECOND BETWEEN INDIVIDUAL CHAFF CARTRIDGE FIRING WITHIN A SALVO.

DISPENSER ASSEMBLY  THIS COMPONENT IS ATTACHED TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE ELECTRONIC MODULE.  IT IS CONNECTED TO THE EM THROUGH ELECTRICAL CABLING.  IT CONTAINS THE BEECH ASSEMBLY, RESET SWITCH, SELECTOR SWITCH (C OR F), FLARE SENSOR, AND HOUSING

PAYLOAD MODULE ASSEMBLY  ATTACHES TO THE DISPENSER ASSEMBLY  CONSISTS OF A PAYLOAD MODULE AND RETAINING PLATE  THE MODULE HAS CHAMBERS FOR 30 M-1 CHAFF CARTRIDGES (THE CHAFF SHOWN REPRESENTS LESS THAN AN INCH FROM THE CARTRIDGE)  CHAFF CONSIST OF DIFFERENT LENGTHS OF METALLIC FIBERGLASS #1 POSITION

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER PREFLIGHT  CONFIRM CHAFF/FLARE (C-F) SELECTOR SWITCH ON THE DISPENSER ASSEMBLY IS SET TO THE CHAFF (C) MODE  CONFIRM PREPLANNED CHAFF PROGRAM IS PROPERLY SET ON EM  REMOVE THE SAFETY PIN FROM THE EM

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER PREFLIGHT  ENSURE THE THE SAFE/ARM SWITCH IS SET TO SAFE  PRESS TO TEST THE ARM LIGHT

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER PREFLIGHT  THE FINAL CHECK IS TO VERIFY THE THE MAN/PGRM SWITCH IS IN THE MANUAL POSITION. IT SHOULD REMAIN IN THE MAN POSITION UNTIL THE SAFE/ARM SWITCH IS PLACED IN THE ARM POSITION AFTER TAKEOFF

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER DOCTRINE AND TACTICS IN FLIGHT TACTICS  AFTER THE AIRCRAFT IS AIRBORNE, THE AIRCRAFT COMMANDER ASSUMES THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ARMING THE M-130 DISPENSER  FIRST, ENSURE THE MAN/PGRM SWITCH IS IN THE MAN POSITION  SECOND, THE SAFE/ARM SWITCH IS PLACE IN THE ARM POSITION  NEXT, THE MAN/PGRM SWITCH IS PLACE IN THE PGRM POSITION

M-130 CHAFF DISPENSER DOCTRINE AND TACTICS THREAT MANEUVERING –PLACE THE THREAT AT THE 3 or 9 O’CLOCK POSITION –WITHIN 2 SECONDS, ACTIVATE CHAFF IN THE PGRM MODE –DEPLOY TO THE AIRCRAFT TO A MASK OR DRIVE THE AIRCRAFT THE MAX EFFECTIVE RANGE (MER) OF THE WEAPON SYSTEM –IF THE THREAT CONTINUES TO TRACK, JINK AND CHAFF EVERY 3-5 SECONDS
