Warm Up Bring your notebook, pencil, and agenda to your desk Complete Friday’s warm up now YOU ARE QUIET, WORKING WHEN THE BELL RINGS

Yesterday… We began our investigation of conductors and insulators and expansion and contraction To review expansion and contraction we will watch a short video that sums this up

Expansion For any single state of matter, when temperature rises, atoms or molecules move further apart. Most substances or mixtures of substances expand when heated.

Contraction When heat is taken away in a solid, liquid, or gas it will normally decrease in volume. The opposite of expansion.

Contraction and Expansion Eureka video F5BVo F5BVo

Here is another example: Balloon and ball in ring xZA xZA

Real World Large structures such as railways and bridges need expansion joints in the structures to avoid sun kink.expansion jointssun kink qvCqY2Hg qvCqY2Hg

Real world: Train Track Accident Report WlIs WlIs

Draw these examples in your notebook Bridge with expansion joints Sidewalk with expansion joints Road with no expansion joints….cracks over time with heating and cooling

Remainder of class… Using chromebooks you will complete the following activities in this order: 1. Complete Frayer Diagram (staple into notebook by folding in half and stapling it at the top of your paper) 2. Online course – expansion and contraction (only watch the video) 3. Discovery Ed activities (2) remember you have to use your NCCloud account to login

Online course – Expansion and Contraction expansion-importance-examples.html#lesson expansion-importance-examples.html#lesson Only watch the video! Once you have finished the video, move onto the next slide – Discovery Ed activities

Discovery Ed Heat on the Move tt=heat+on+the+move+exploration tt=heat+on+the+move+exploration Complete the activity along with the worksheet

To hot to handle virtual lab tt=to+hot+to+handle+virtual+lab tt=to+hot+to+handle+virtual+lab Complete the activity along with the worksheet

3 rd and 4 th Blocks….. Post Test on Electromagnetic Spectrum 1 st – review game on Kahoot 2 nd – online assessment through chromebooks

You will go back and grab your chromebook when I dismiss your row Login to Kahoot.it and wait for pin to join the game I will give candy out to top 5 finishers

Chromebooks… You will take your MAP test online today You will receive 2 folders to sit up around your computer When you are dismissed go back and grab your chromebook Return to your seat wait for directions

Finished testing? Finish your Frayer Diagram from yesterday Finished that, raise your hand for directions
