Session Objectives Know different features which are used on an ecommerce website, Understand and be able to apply promotion strategies to an ecommerce website, Know different costs which are attributed to an ecommerce website, Understand and suggest security procedures to prevent any potential loss.

P6 - Overview P6 requires to produce a report which investigates existing ecommerce website and then make recommendations for a new ecommerce site based on your findings.

P6 – Report Structure Selection of a business to produce a strategy for, This section will introduce the business, it should be an existing company that doesn’t already have any ecommerce presence, 3 x site reviews of existing ecommerce sites ensure you mention: Sites ease of use, product placement / display and how to find goods, how to order / enter personal and delivery details, payment gateway. Promotion of the site Details of how you think the website should be promoted, Costs of ecommerce Details of the costs which are involved with setting up and running an ecommerce website Hosting and other technical details Where the site will be hosted and who will make the site, what languages used, who provides the checkout, Security implications How to protect the site from security threats.

Topic Exercise Using these notes produce evidence for P6 Remember that any sources used from the internet or text book must be referenced. Before developing your own strategies you should review current commercial interfaces. When selecting the sites to compare choose sites selling different products and have a range of different features. When reviewing consider the product being sold, customers they are trying to attract and key features they have included and the style of the website, You will then be produce your own e-commerce strategy for a business of your choice. Choose this “real world business” wisely try and find something interesting to work with. The strategy should include ideas for promoting the site, what costs will be involved (actual figures are not required), the security measures to be put in place and how the site will be hosted. P6 can be evidenced by a report in a suitable format. P6 – Plan an e-Commerce strategy.
