Factors Affecting Projectile Motion
Projectile motion can be described by the horizontal and vertical components of motion. Now we extend ideas of linear motion to nonlinear motion—motion.

QUICK QUIZ YOU KNOW THE DRILL!!! Books out and ready to go…..

1.What is the movement happening at the shoulder? 2.What is the agonist? 3.What is the antagonist?

STABILITY 4. Is this little lady stable? Why/Why not? - You must refer to 3 points.

1.What is the movement happening at the shoulder? abduction 2.What is the agonist? deltoid 3.What is the antagonist? Latissimus Dorsi & Pectorals

STABILITY 4. Is this little lady stable? Why/Why not? -You must refer to 3 points. 1.Lowered COG by bending her knees 2.Wide BOS 3.LOG falls within BOS

PROJECTILE MOTION (page 122) As soon as an object is thrown it becomes a projectile Projectiles may include objects such as balls, athletic equipment such as a shot put, the human body (in activities such as jumping)

SPEED OF RELEASE Throwing activity: –One throw with a small effort –One throw with a large effort

SPEED OF RELEASE The the speed of release, the greater the distance covered in flight. Slow Throw Fast Throw Distance GREATER

SPEED OF RELEASE The greater the speed of release, the greater the distance covered in flight. Slow Throw Fast Throw Distance

ANGLE OF RELEASE MONKEY!!! Experiment time!!! Does the angle of release affect the distance covered??? YOU BE THE JUDGE

ANGLE OF RELEASE The ideal angle of release is 45 degrees. If the angle is greater or less, the distance covered in flight is less.

ANGLE OF RELEASE 45 Degrees 25 70

HEIGHT OF RELEASE Experiment: –One throw from the ground –One throw from on top of a chair

HEIGHT OF RELEASE The the level of release the greater the distance covered in flight. Height Distance HIGHER

FIRE HOSE EXAMPLE

FORCE SUMMATION Force Summation = –The sum of all forces generated by each body part

FORCE SUMMATION To get as much force as possible: 1.Use as many MUSCLES as possible e.g. using the thighs, abdominals, forearm 2.Use the muscles in the BODY 3.Use the CORRECT SEQUENCE. This is important so that force is transferred from muscle to muscle 4.Stretch muscles to their full length

FORCE SUMMATION –Momentum = Mass of Object x Velocity of Object –Therefore: If you start momentum in the large muscles first and this momentum is not lost and is carried to the smaller muscles, by the time it has reached the smaller muscles it is moving very fast

–Moving your legs 4kg’s (mass) x 3 m/s (velocity) = 12kgm/s (momentum) –Therefore if this movement is then passed to your trunk 12kgms (momentum) = 3 kgs (mass) x (4 m/s) Velocity –If this momentum is then passed to your arms 12kgms (momentum) = 2 kgs (mass) x (6 m/s) –As you can see the velocity is getting quicker FORCE SUMMATION
